I do most of my development on a machine with no actual capture device. That wasn't a problem with GBPVR as I could add an analog device that didn't exist and then add an EPG attached to that. With NPVR there is no way to do that. Does anyone know how to fool it to give a selection option in devices in the setting screen???

You can copy an npvr.db3 file with devices included to your device machine. I could send you a blank one if this is a problem.

I'd like to echo this request for any help on setting up a similar dev environment for nPVR, to the one that I have now with GBPVR.

Someone was kind enough to pass along a npvr.db3 file with capture sources included, during early testing. But I was only able to effectively populate the TVguide. I couldn't set any recordings and as a result populate the recordings plugin screen.

It means I can't develop any skins on my development machine because I don't have a capture device install.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers

I wonder if it would be possible for you to install the trial version of DVBLink (from DVBLogic), it created virtual tuners, but I don't know if you need to have a real tuner to install it. Might be worth looking at (http://www.dvblogic.com/download.php).

Edit: Or if you could use ANY capture device that is recognized by NPVR I can donate an old card for the good cause Smile

While playing I just created a recording directory the same as I had for GB-PVR on my server & then created the recordings sub directories under it & put some very small movie files in them named the same as the recordings & then did an export from GB & an import into NPVR.

If you take a npvr.db3 file from another machine, and dont visit the Devices screen, then you should be able schedule recordings etc. If you visit the Devices screen it'll realise the device is not there and mark it as disabled.

Cheers folks, excellent suggestions.

Reddwarf: DVBLink worked perfectly. I installed the "TVSource" package and now have 4 virtual tuners - I can populate the TVGuide and set recordings...it's perfect! Since I'm not actually using the software hopefully the 20 day trial limitation won't have any effect when it expires.

Cheers Jaggy/sub, if the above craps out on me after the 20 day trial, these ideas could be perfect.

I'm planning on trying to develop the skin idea I posted in the pre-release forums. So at least now I can see all the main plugins.

Thanks again for the help folks, it really appreciated Smile
