When I watch live tv on an analog channel, there is a slight stutter. If I pause and play just for a partial second to build a buffer, then the stutter goes away. Is there a preplay delay type setting I can access? I did not see it in the config file.

There is no equivalent of a pre-play delay. The data is going pretty much from the device to the demux to the decoders, so no place to add a delay.

Have you tried other decoders to see if they make a difference?

I have been working with decoders and have not found a good solution yet. They all seem to do the same thing but I will keep looking. So if all live TV is really now in timeshift mode, then it starts recording and playing the "live" TV at the same time and it is not playing the recorded file? And if you hit pause and play, then it is working off the recorded file?

Its a out-of-process hybrid live preview / timeshift mode. ie, its always recording to a buffer file and to shared memory, and playback engine starts looking at the shared memory first, and doesnt switch to file playback until you hit pause or skip.

Thanks for the explaining it. It is much clearer now. Based on that, it must be a decoder issue since it only happens on analog. If it was a memory issue, the HD would likely have the problem worse.

It is brilliant - when I read that there was no preview mode I was very concerned that channel changes would go to crap, but it's excellent. Pausing is instant (I cant notice any lag) yet channel changes is just about as quick as before - I am very impressed!

Cheers - a lot of effort when into the new timeshift engine. I think its pretty good too.
