Yes, June 29, 2010, 4:24pm. That's in the future for me, but I don't see how Windows would care about that.

Sub, let's not worry about this for now, you probably have better things to work on. I've worked around the potential problem on my end by unbinding the green button on my remote, it does nothing now, so there's no easy way to launch a second instance of NextPVR.exe by accident. So far so good on recordings, they've all proceeded normally on Monday, as did the majority on Sunday. I don't know if the recordings marked failed issue was related to having a second instance of NextPVR.exe running or not... I'm about 100% sure I did have a second instance running on Saturday when every recording was marked failed, so it seems at least possible that caused my particular version of the problem.

I don't know about anyone else's occurances though... ACTCMS's log is quite different from mine. His shows the recording being marked failed the moment it was supposed to finish except for the padding, almost as if it's just a bug in the padding logic. Mine shows the recording service suddenly waking up hours after all the recordings were done, apparently because I deleted a recording, and marking them all failed at the same time; simultaneously my NPVR.log was empty. Different flavors of the same problem, or completely different problems that both happen to result in the same symptom? I tend to think the latter.

I am really enjoying using Next-PVR, it has a lot to recommend it, thanks for all the effort Sub.
I've also been experiencing "failed because recording service not running" on some recordings, e.g.
Friday night I recorded One News, Close Up and Dancing on Ice
One News and Close Up both show 2 recordings, 1 marked "failed because recording service not running" and 1 OK
Dancing on Ice shows only once as "failed because recording service not running" but can be watched via Videos (Phew!)
Saturday night Recorded One Sport Football, One News and One Bond, all recorded correctly
I can't see anything consistent about this, can post some logs if it would help
I'm using N-PVR v1.5.21 on Windows 7 HP 64-bit

I've not had a single instance of this occurring since making sure that I have only 1 copy of NextPVR.exe running. I don't claim that's the sole cause of everyone's issue, only that's apparently what caused it for me.

I am also using one of the later builds of NextPVR.exe posted in this thread, I suppose it's possible some change in there is also what eliminated my problem.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I've managed to fix this for the next build.

I can't say for sure I didn't have 2 instances of NextPVR running on Friday, that would sort of explain why there were 2 recordings showing.
I'll make sure I don't have 2 instances in future
Thanks

lol, no sooner did I say that than I found two recordings last night failed that way. However in this case they failed just like what is shown in ACTCMS's log - one show was supposed to run to 2:00am, but also had a 2 minute end pad, then it got marked as "failed" at 2:00am, but then finished recording at 2:02am. I normally don't have padding on my shows, but these two were quick-records so I guess they used padding anyway.

EDIT: DISREGARD part of that. The recordings didn't actually get marked failed. I was only looking at the NRECORD.log, as the TV itself was in use. The log SAYS they were marked failed, but they show fine in the ready and what's new lists.

Sub, I have the Padding time set to zero in config.xml, but all recordings default to padding anyway (start:1 minute and end:2 minutes). On the regular & recurring recordings I'm able to manually put the padding back to zero, and it does obey that. I presume though the intention for the padding settings in config is to provide the defauilt padding for all recordings?

Any notion on when you'll be releasing the next beta? I think I've got two or three items on the "fixed for the next build" list now.

I'm hoping to publically release it in the next couple of days.

I just checked this now and seemed to behave the way I expected. ie I edited the defaults in config.xml to set them to zero, started NPVR, went to the TV Guide, pressed Enter on a show, selected Record, and the popup that is shown with the padding set to 'none'. I also tried a 'quick record' then did an 'update' in the recordings screen to check the padding values that were used with the quick record, and they were both set to 'none'.

Were you testing it some other way?

Sorry sub, I seem to have sent you in pursuit of an untamed ornithoid. I was certain I had previously set padding to '0' in config.xml. However on checking now it's still set to the defaults of 1 and 2.

I'm sure if I had made a thread specifically about that I would have checked more thoroughly, but I wasn't as careful when just tossing it in to another post. Sorry for wasting your time.
