NPVR client compatible with gbpvr server?

This might be a dumb question, but can I use NPVR on my client machines while keeping gbpvr on my server that handles all the recordings?

No it's not. There is no client/server mode for NPVR at this stage, but when there is, it wont be compatible with a GBPVR server (since they use an entirely different database and have different attributes for recordings etc).

OK thanks. I will not be upgrading then until it supports client/server. I'll keep checking back.

Out of curiosity, what would the pros and cons of something like an NMT emulator compared to a client as in the gbpvr one??

There would be nothing to stop someone creating an NMT emulator if they wanted. I cant really give you pros and cons because no one has implemented on at this stage, so we havnt seen how well it could work. In theory it could work as well as an NMT.

Its not the most straight forward approach approach for getting a client going on a PC. It'd take a lot of work to handle playback in the way the NMT clients receive data.

Also, traditional PC clients get menu animations etc, and faster screen updates etc. They'd also be able to use plugins that use external player components, like the Netflix plugin etc.

No sure if anyone has ask and I've not seen anything posted as a list, could you provide a list of NMT that will be supported or should work with NPVR ? Reason I'm asking I know the older MediaMVP will be going away and so I will deep 6 those I have when I have to (they have a new release for HD but not looked at it). Also I have found XBMC a great client for just about any video format if live TV not needed support the com skip as well. XBox 360 just suxs as a client and worthless, too much resources on post processing video before xbox 360 will even play it. Anyway any heads up on what is in the pipeline would be great so I can start planning for my new set top boxes.
