My xmltv files are about 14 Meg, do you have much bigger files?

sgilani Wrote:It seems you can't use more than one XMLTV file for listings (unlike GBPVR where each source could have it's own independent one), so I've created a little command-line app that merges multiple XMLTV files together. If anyone needs it, let me know and I'll polish it up for general use and put it up.

You can use multiple xmltv files with NPVR. In fact, you can use multiple files for channels within a single capture source. There are two ways that you can do it:

  1. In the Settings->Channels screen, double click the channel (or select "Details") and assign the file and EPG channel.
  2. While watching Live TV, right click and select "Set channel EPG source".

soccerdad Wrote:The mc2xml is REALLY simple so I would not let that stop you. All of the directions are on the mc2xml site and lots of help is here too. It is as easy as downloading a file, dropping it in a directory (where ever you want), making a list of channels you want in a text file (only if you don't want the entire listing) and a small batch file for the program to call. Then you just run it once and select which data you want and that is it. You just point npvr at the xmltv file and you are good to go. If the batch file is a problem I would gladly share mine. Once you are up and running, it is just like the built in version.

If you are using schedules direct, you can configure your lineup to no include the channels you don't want from there by disabling them in you lineup. No need to configure the channel file for mc2xml.
I jus like the integrated functionality as there no need to set up another scheduled task to grab the guide data everynight as GBPVR automatically did it for me.

I still use I-xmltv with GBPVR to get listings from SchedulesDirect and edit them to suit - when I set up my NPVR test rig I duplicated the I-xmltv setup so NPVR would call it to update the EPG and use the xmltv file. The only edits to the .bat files were the path strings. This gives me control over things like "first air date" and "episode number" etc.

See if this link gets you where you need to go.
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/I-xmltvForSD

Why not try mc2xml?
It's much easier IMO. The link seems to move often which makes me wonder if there is a problem with using it but it's working for me.

See the epg section of the npvr sticky (in my sig below) for a little more info, but basically:

1. download mc2xml
2. put it in a directory, like c:\epg
3. run mc2xml.exe
4. select schedules direct, put in use name and password
5. mc2xml creates xmltv.xml in the same directory
6. in NPVR channel list, point first channel to xmltv.xml, select matching channel
7. click "bulk map", match up each physical channel to epg channel
8. click update epg
9. create updateepg.bat in npvr\scripts directory:
Code:
cd \epg
mc2xml -d 360
(the -d 360 tells it to download 15 days' worth (24x15=360) of epg data, which is what I use... it defaults to 7 days if you don't specify)
