I set up my W7 laptop as a npvr client. I can get the guide off the server but cant do much else. When I try live tv it hangs for a while then I get a black screen. Same with trying to view a recording. The logs are attached for the recording viewing. I can view the file from VLC so the share should be OK. All my recordings are on the D drive of the server if that makes any difference. I was able to schedule a recording from the client and see it pending on the server.

Post the client and server logs and I'll take a look.

Here are the logs. Not much on the server side that I see. I found that I can view recordings from the video plugin, but not from recordings or live tv. For them I get a black screen with the show name and a timeline at the top with zeros at both ends.

I cant see any request arriving at the server so it's most likely either the wrong server name entered, or firewall software getting in the way.

I killed the firewall on the server and it works for recorded shows. Do I have to open a specific port? The windows firewall has npvr listed, but it must be for the server. For live tv it wants c:\temp\ so I added it and it works! Really choppy though. I will keep playing. Thanks

I found in the logs port 7969 and opened it and the recordings work with the firewall on, but live tv does not. Is that on another port?

What port or program do I have to allow through my firewall for live tv?

NRecord.exe on the server. Its used for streaming both live tv and recordings.

Live tv and playback of recordings should be exactly same, and use all the same code (so same port etc). I'm not sure why you would see any difference between the two.
