Mine sits at 8-10% from the start. I never changed the default of zero media extenders, so nothing to try there. My machine doesn't have any tuners except a remote HDHR, so nothing analog. If I start nextpvr CPU usage jumps to 50-60% and stays there even if I do nothing with it.

One odd thing I've observed. It reads and reads from the disk. Approx. 5 kB per second. Don't know if it's related, but I do find it curious.

Maybe try temporarily removing the npvr.db3 file, and replace it with a copy of empty.db3, and restart to see if the problem is still there.

It probably is related. You might need to download filemon to see what is writing to.

It has been relieved for Pension by Process Monitor (according to MS). Attached a screendump of filtered events. It relentlessly tries to something about a file apparently. Does it ring any bell in your end?

With your full database back in place, if you do an 'empty epg', does it still have high CPU usage?

Are you running NEWA? It has is pretty aggressive when Ajax is enabled and the web server is writing logs and running stuff every 5 seconds

Code:
2010-09-21 17:27:05.253    [DEBUG][13]    Got Web Request (127.0.0.1): /AjaxService.asmx/GetReminders
2010-09-21 17:27:07.263    [DEBUG][13]    Got Web Request (127.0.0.1): /AjaxService.asmx/GetServerTime
2010-09-21 17:27:11.254    [DEBUG][13]    Got Web Request (127.0.0.1): /AjaxService.asmx/GetReminders
2010-09-21 17:27:12.253    [DEBUG][13]    Got Web Request (127.0.0.1): /AjaxService.asmx/GetServerTime

I just leave Ajax services off.

Yes - but with a twist. When I do the "Update EPG" - WHILE it's updating, it mainly stays at 0-2% but has some spikes - also above 20%. When reload has finished, we're back at 9-10% Same as after "Empty EPG" was perfomed. I even did it twice just to be sure it was empty :-)

Martin: I don't have NEWA installed. My nPVR is a vanilla install.

As another data point, mine is running at about 5% when idle and 10% with 3-4 simultaneous recordings in progress. (2 from 2 HDHR tuners and 1-2 from a PCI card in the server--all QAM digital.) I've just got basic cable, so only about 20 channels in the EPG.
