I've just started using GBPVR after a long absence and a couple of times I have discovered an empty EPG with no channels or programs using the web interface. Right clicking on the icon and selecting reload EPG fixes it until it happens again a few days later.
How do I troubleshoot this or is it easier in the long run to upgrade to the new version?

You'd probably have to post the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log covering the time an automated EPG update would normally occur so I can see if any problem happens.

OK, do I have to turn the logging up a notch? Should I stop the service, delete the contents of the log directory then wait for it to fail? Just took a look in the logs and can't find anything obvious.

I get it using XML TV GUI. The GBPVR service has been stopped for a couple of months so maybe that has something to do with it.

I could be wrong but have a suspicion (hence me asking) that you're using XMLTV GUI with the RT grabber?

The fact that GBPVR recording service has been stopped for a couple of months is and isn't relevant. (as long as you've updated the EPG with a good grab!) I suspect that the last grab you took of the RT stuff with XMLTV GUI is not good?

As per this thread that was going for a while:

http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...e-channels

RT XML has been hit and miss for quite a while now. A grab NOW while it is working (just checked) should perhaps sort you?

best

Yes that's the one. It's also an old version V3.12.00 should I update or sit back and see whether a better version arrives? Sounds like I shouldn't worry about the fault

Depends on your usage.

Later v of grabber gives some more flexibility with way you can grab and store episode and series data.

Personally I would try an upgrade only because AB (Birtle's) really only upgrades XMLTV GUI when necessary and is always a robust upgrade. This won't solve the error with the RT data, that is down to RT but I hope that will be resolved soon. (Otherwise try the .bat back_up file from Jaggy on the other thread I gave, works a treat!)

I would also try and check out NPVR (if you haven't) not sure of your set up but NPVR already is proving very robust!

very best

I think the later versions of if also do a bit more detective work - i.e. if the download from the Radio Times produces zero length files it doesn't write an empty epg xml file, so gbpvr is left using the old one.
p.s. That is one reason I just let gbpvr do the epg update rather then these command line batch files that start off with --emptyepg !!

Be aware also that there have been a number of channel name changes that do not have any effect in continued use of xmltvgui but a new version or update of the channel list presents the new names to gbpvr.

Updated to the later version, then I had the problem again. A few hours later the TD went into a sulk and prevented the server rebooting until it was unplugged. As it was pretty warm to the touch it's going in the bin as no doubt it's past it's best and I really don't need the hassle. Hopefully by the time I get a replacement installed RT would have sorted things out
Thanks for the replies
