Up until now, for the skins I've been part of, I've been trying my best to second guess what might work the best - for the most number of a people.

I thought it would be worth asking for your personal skin preferences. I'm interested in hearing from folks with 16:9/HD displays (i.e. 32" plus - HD - flat-screen TV, viewed from a reasonable distance). If you could simply answer a or b to the following numbered questions, that would be appreciated:

  1. Is your preference in backgrounds a) Bright colourful or b) darker more mono-chromatic
  2. Is it important to have a) an overscan border or b) no overscan (1:1 pixel mapping) and fit more on screen
  3. Do you prefer your default text to be a) larger or b) smaller (for example Wave started with 11pt text and is now 12.5pt)
  4. Do you prefer a) high contrast between text and background or b) more subtle contrast (e.g. use yellow text for titles vs Waves' use of blue)
  5. Should preference be given to a) number of TV channels in listings or b) larger show descriptions
  6. Should preference be given to a) show subtitle or b) show description
  7. Should preference be given to a) long file titles or b) descriptions and artwork
  8. Should preference be given to a) Bold text styles or b) Plain text styles (more specifically in titles and subtitles)
Cheers

I'll just answer the ones I have a definite opinion on:

2: b)
5: a)

The rest I'll leave up to your artistic talent Smile

i'm just glad i can see *all* my artwork and descriptions in video library finally! Big Grin

i would think the number of users who need overscan is pretty small these days, as it should only be tube users who need it anymore...
[aren't *all* flatscreens 1:1 pixels?? [or very close]]
maybe post a test screen to help people check their overscan or lack thereof?
humans do like a little border around the edges even if not needed, but not much...[not good to have things touching the edges]

  1. b) darker more mono-chromatic
  2. b) no overscan (1:1 pixel mapping) and fit more on screen
  3. a) larger
  4. a) high contrast between text and background !!! Can have aneffect on how big text needs to be - high contrast smaller text...!
  5. a) number of TV channels in listings
  6. b) show description
  7. a) long file titles (but it's really a balance here)
  8. a) Bold text styles (more specifically in titles and subtitles) but its a balance vs size

Good idea to make this kind of survey :-)
