My viewing is on a 42" LCD
1 b) i think I preferred the original grey wave skin over the blue one with the npvr releases
2 a) an overscan border - the channels seem to broadcast assuming you have overscan looking at the position of the BBC news ticker for example. I can turn it off in catalyst but I think it looks better with the overscan on and thus dont like when any skin text pops off the edge of the screen.
3 b) smaller - very annoying when the Radiotimes info doesn't fit. Much prefer Wave to the size I have on the community skin on my GBPVR setup.
4 a) I think...
5 bit of both... I vastly prefer the number of shows I get on a screen with Wave over the community skin, but it's also annoying when the show details dont fit. I think Wave has it spot on at the moment
6 b) show description
7 b) descriptions and artwork
8 b) Plain text styles - I think!

Hope that's helpful.

I haven't vote mainly because I disagree with the GBPVR/NPVR philosophy of designing skins that draw in the unsafe zone. I figure that a new user's first experience should actually be good, with no cutoff text, and then you should be able tweak it to get better. People voting are typically not new users and don't consider this skewing the outcome.

Here is new resource http://code.google.com/tv/web/docs/optim...guide.html with tips for skinning and developing.

I've tried to stick to those basic rules since I first started trying my hand at overall layouts, with community skin v4.

The problem really is that there is no "one size fits all". I end up going around and around trying to guess what's the best compromise and it wrecks my head. It's not just the safe area/overscan problem, there are many. So I decided to ask for peoples preferences on , what for me are , the top 8 or so skin basics. As limited as this is, I've decided to base future layouts on the responses I've gotten here and simple refer any future personal layout queries to this thread.
