If the money has been accumulating for six months, then I'm one of the victims, who's donation was grabbed. I donated just before NPVR beta was released.

After reading this thread I've finally got round to transferring the balance from my own Paypal account into my bank. Thinking about it they must be earning interest or something while they have my money? Their fees are bad enough without making money out of nothing. Double Grr.

Annoyingly there is no good alternatives to PayPal

I'm new to gbpvr/npvr and this is my first post. I hope you don't consider the following spam, I've simply had it with PayPal and have found some seemingly viable alternatives.

Sub, if you are not selling on eBay there's actually quite a few good alternatives to PayPal. Since eBay bought the PayPal service a few years ago I've watched it go from from a pretty good money transfer system to an outfit I don't want anything to do with. I stopped selling online a couple years ago, mostly due to the increasing eBay/PayPal hassles and expense, but have been thinking about a new commercial web site lately. After a bit of research I have a list of five or six e-commerce companies that look promising. I will do some more research before committing to one but have listed them below, hopefully it will help you out.

Google Checkout Yes, Google is now competing with PayPal. (Can't currently be used on eBay). To look into it you have to sign into your Google account then browse/search for it.

Moneybookers I believe this is a UK based company and they are allowed on eBay

One other option would be to put up a mailing address for donations. I know snail mail is an outdated concept but I would not mind sending you a check or money order. In most cases I'd rather send a check than punch my credit card number into a third party web site.

I'll check out the others to see if any are appropriate. When I looked in the past, many of the payment systems werent easily geared up for variable payment amount of the user's choosing, or are US/Canada or Europe bank accounts only.

There is one other company that may work for you. I didn't mention it earlier because I've scratched it off "My List" as a possible. I ruled them out for myself because they charge the customer a 25 cent transaction fee and tack 1.5% onto the customers total. I simply can't see that working with a commercial web site where you're selling something, people are accustomed to the merchant eating it on credit cards. For variable donations it could be a viable option, the customer could knock off a couple bucks from the total if they had a problem with it. I just took a quick look at their application form and New Zealand is listed as a merchant country. You can check them out at Obopay

If you fear your donation is really lost, you may also consider filing a complaint with your national bank. At least here in Europe Paypal has to register with the national banks in order to get a permit to operate in the individual countries.
