Hi all,

When playing back an HD recording I find that when skipping forward (currently set to 120secs) it will sometimes skip and resume almost immediately, sometimes there will be a freeze delay of a few seconds, sometimes it will freeze then never recover. The last image at the point where I hit the skip button remians on the screen. Can't get back to the guide or anything from thge remote, can only right click exit from the keyb.

Using MS decoders for SD & HD.

Ian.

are you using 1.5.33? I had this problem all the time, and just figured it was a problem with my system... But since upgrading to 1.5.33 the problem has gone away completely.

I'm running 1.5.33.

Possibly related, see my other post here.

Ok, fixed the DVB-S card issue, back to this problem.......

Problem still exists, I notice though that the screen freeze can range anywhere between immediate to 50 secs before play resumes.
Other times it will freeze forever, but I can press the skip forward button again whilst it's frozen and it will skip again and play.
So it seems to me that it's not jumping back in properly.

Update: I tried skipping through an .MKV and it's much, much better. So there's a difference between skipping through an HD recording and an HD MKV.

What you described is EXACTLY the problem I had until 1.5.33. I always figured it was a decoder or video driver issue, but was never able to resolve it. Then 1.5.33 resolved it for me. I realize that doesn't help you much as you already have upgraded to 1.5.33. All I can suggest is to try a different decoder and/or update your video drivers.

.MKV playback is handled by windows rather than NPVR, and of course uses a different source filter, splitter and decoder, so it's not really comparable.

+1 for this problem. I figured it was a problem with my decoders or setup as well. Sometimes it freezes after a skip, but the audio keeps going. Usually, it just freezes and usually never comes back. This is probably the biggest issue I have and causes a really low WAF. Also, I don't know if it is related, but sometimes when I short skip back, it actually goes forward. Seems to be some kind of inconsistant timeline thing. I am not sure if it is with the latest release since I just installed it yesterday and have not played back a recording since. Was there something in the release that might have helped it?

I have been playing with this issue in regard to H.264 recording playback and tried a few decoders as follows:-

MS DTV = Great quality, but skipping forward etc is just unreliable per above. Audio tends to get out of sync also. A real let down. Typical MS...?

FFDSHOW = Skipping is pretty reliable, however, the visual quality isn't. It's HD, but it's almost like the refresh rate is half (haven't tried any config yet). Audio sync doesn't seem too bad.

ARCSOFT = Skipping is reliable, visual quality is pretty good, Audio seems to stay in sync.

UPDATE:
In regard to pause/rewind live tv (tried this on an SD programme MPEG1 audio) I notice that if you play around with pause, skip back, play, skip forward, catch up to live etc then the audio can end up seconds out of sync. Other times trying to reproduce this (same channel/programme) it's pretty solid.

Exact same problems here. skipping takes for ever and sometimes goes backwards. I am going to revert to previous release for now.

It seems that the new .33 release works better. I did find a repeatable bug though. If you pause the playback, then accidently press fast forward, it just freezes and you can't recover from it.

AFAIK NPVR has always been this way since 1.5.19. I'm not saying it isn't a bug, it just isn't new.
