In short, i like to use MPC-HC as a quick and dirty additional way to access my TV channels.

It's light, with a nice and clean UI, and it works in a wide range of Windows versions.

The problem is that, for some strange reasons id doesn't play 100% nicely with NPVR4...

It mostly works, but more often than not it starts playing for 2/3 seconds then it stops, switching the channel back and forth usually leads to a stable play.

Now the part that drives me crazy is that

MPC-HC works with everything (including NPVR5) except NPVR4

on the other hand NPVR4 works with everything (vlc, pov player, bsplayer, and so on) except MPC-HC

I guessed it was a sort of timeout problem, but extending the timeout on MPC-HC didn't help at all

So, not the biggest problem of the universe but something I would like to know.

Maybe it's a known problem for you and you have a ready made solution...

As I wrote that's more a technical curiosity on my part than a real problem

Quote:The ready-made solution is obvious use v5.

On the field not everything's always obvious as may appear from the coding room.

In the specific case, I faced situations where using anything newer than Win10 LTSB 2015 (which is still supported until 2025) was out of question for a reason or another.

Now happens that NPVR5 needs at least the 4.7.2 net framework, while LTSB 2015 is stuck on 4.6.1 or so.

Perhaps I spent half a day trying to understand what was wrong, given that the .net requirement seem not stated anywhere on the website (nor advertised by the installer at the time I faced the problem), NPVR5 started and apparently worked, but didn't find any tuner.

I just had a look through the few v5 components that require .NET Frameware, and the highest requirement I could find was 4.6.1. Was it a specific thing that makes you think it needs 4.7.2?

It might be a case of needing to install https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/VC_redist.x86.exe or something similar.

@sub

The attached image looks pretty clear to me. (the recent NPVR installer now warns about .net, something that didn't happen a year ago or so)

Aside the screenshot below, W10 anniversary edition (1607 aka 14393) and its server cousin Server 2016 don't have net 4.7+ on fresh install and NTPVR5 doesn't work as well.
But there you can install both 4.7x and 4.8 so the problem vanishes after you upgrade the framework.

Frankly I'm a bit surprised weren't aware of that requirement.

P.S. .net 4.7/4.8 can be installed also on win 7 and win 8.1. So the only systems affected are Win8, Win Server 2012, Win 10 1507, and Win 10 1511 (among them only 1507 is a still supported system by MS)

Ah, think it's only the the installer that is having the issue. Earlier versions of the .NET runtime didn't include the capability unzip files. (I've fixed the "procecced" typo in that message for the next build)

You could manually download https://nextpvr.com/stable/win64/NPVR.zip. Unzip the contents in the "C:\Program Files\NextPVR", then right click on installservice.bat, and click 'run as administrator'. You can then access http://localhost:8866 etc.

That's a test already done.

Like I said above NPVR5 seem  working, the Web UI works, I can connect the clients and so on...
But no tuner is detected.

On the very same system NPVR4 finds the tuners and works as expected, so I'm reasonably sure it's not a driver problem.

Dvblink, mediaportal and WMC are seeing the tuner as well.

My guess is that .net 4.7 has some bda extension or alike that npvr5 needs and are missing on 4.61

Did you try installing https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/VC_redist.x86.exe. It's possible you'll need to install this runtime before it'll see the tuners.

No martin. 4.72 is not supported. Period

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/...quirements

I'm working with a friend to a patched installer, and if we will be succesfull I will post the link here.

But until that day there is nothing I can do on my side.

I'll test it ASAP.

But explain why NTPVR5 on LTSB2016 does not work until i upgrade the framework
