Hey,

I asm just starting to test with NPVR, and wrote a program to take the channel number given output at record time, and zero pad to 3 digits for my STB.

The program works from commandline, but does not fire the blaster when NPVR runs it (I can see it running the command in the logs, and my program also logs the request, and wht it sent.

Is this relatd to the account in wich NPVR record service runs as? Does it need to be run as local user or something?
I tried ticking 'interact with desktop', but no change.

Running Win7 ultimate, UAC off.

You will probably need to have NRecord run as your user account; I think something breaks when those sorts of programs try to run as "Local System" which is the default for NRecord.

In Vista (which has UAC too) I have NRecord running as Local System when it is a service and as a normal user when I test with NRecord RUN and in both cases NRecord is able to run the program that control my STB.

Here is how mine looks in setup.

OK,
I still can't get this to work, not sure what I am doing wrong:
from npvr.log
Running blaster: C:\htpc\uirt\ChannelChanger.exe 73

and from my app log:
20/10/2010 8:25:31 p.m.-> Channel To Change To: 73 ~ Sent to Blaster: 0 7 3 <-

I can run the same command which NPVR logs from command line, and it works fine.
I've tried with the npvr record service set as my local user account, set as local service (with & without interact with desktop checked)

I tried to have the program set to always run as administrator.
This is kind of a killer for NPVR, unless I get the blaster for the HDPVR out and try that (although Sub has said that has it's own problems)

I also tried to change the blaster commandline to be the uutx command (which my app uses to fire the blaster)
Thought it may have just been the HDPVR, so I added a channel to one of the analog cards I hadn't set up yet, but got the same result.

Did you try the USBUIRT.exe instead?

See these threads?

Success!
Quote: Did you try the USBUIRT.exe instead?

I got that working from the commandline, then npvr.
I couldn't see any options to zero pad & send 3 digits like there was in pvrx2, so I changed the references in my app, and it worked fine.

Not really sure why uutx didn't work from npvr but did from command line itself, and when my app called it, but can move on with npvr now.
Thanks.

Have you tried using HIP for this stuff? When I used a STB )with gbpvr) I let HIP handle everything and it worked fine.

Yea, I never had HIP on this Win7 box, and thought it was a bit of overkill for hip to be used to just send ircommands (was hardly used untl I got the HDPVR)

I thought of putting hip back on my bedroom client (i've just upgraded it to Win7) but might try using Pbs's no sotware route first for my mce remote.

Good to know

Could you perhaps detail what you did here, in case anyone else is in the same spot?

Oh, Sorry, I just created a quick commandline app in visual basic 2005 (express edition) to run the blaster

Code:
Imports System
Imports System.IO
Module Main

    Public Sub Main(ByVal args() As String)

        Dim channel As String
        Dim Chan1 As String
        Dim Chan2 As String
        Dim Chan3 As String
        channel = "X"
        For Each arg As String In args
            channel = arg
        Next arg

        Chan1 = "0"
        Chan2 = "0"
        Chan3 = "0"

        If channel = "X" Then
            Console.Write("No Channel Given - Cannot Continue")
            Exit Sub
        End If
        If Len(channel) > 3 Then
            Console.Write("Channel must be 3 numbers or less - Cannot Continue")
            Exit Sub
        End If

        If Len(channel) = 1 Then
            Chan3 = Left(channel, 1)
        Else
            If Len(channel) = 2 Then
                Chan2 = Mid(channel, 1, 1)
                Chan3 = Mid(channel, 2, 1)
            Else
                If Len(channel) = 3 Then
                    Chan1 = Left(channel, 1)
                    Chan2 = Mid(channel, 2, 1)
                    Chan3 = Mid(channel, 3, 1)
                End If
            End If
        End If

        Dim ChannelLog As String
        ChannelLog = "C:\HTPC\UIRT\ChannelChanger.Log"
        Using w As StreamWriter = File.AppendText(ChannelLog)
            w.Write(Date.Now & "->" & " Channel To Change To: " & channel & " ~ Sent to Blaster: " & Chan1 & " " & Chan2 & " " & Chan3 & " <-")
            w.WriteLine()
        End Using

        Shell("C:\htpc\uirt\USBUIRTSend.exe C:\htpc\uirt\device.dat " & Chan1, AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True)
        Shell("C:\htpc\uirt\USBUIRTSend.exe C:\htpc\uirt\device.dat " & Chan2, AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True)
        Shell("C:\htpc\uirt\USBUIRTSend.exe C:\htpc\uirt\device.dat " & Chan3, AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True)

    End Sub
End Module

All it does is set the 3 blasting variables to 0, then changes (some or all ) them to numbers depending on how long the channel number is which NPVR gives it.

I've hardcoded it to my systems paths, but I've attached the Exe if anyopne wants to use it.
The zip contains the apps etc in the correct path, just unzip to your c:\ drive.

You also need to make a device.dat file (it's just text) - The one included is for the NZ MySkyHDi box (pace 850NZ I think)
Theres an app calle lrnhelper.exe in the zip too. You can use that to create the file, or even easier, use one of the premade usbuirt files from PVRX2 (or one you created in pvrx2 yourself)

There probably a much more elegant solution involveing config files, but this works.

edit: Just set you .exe changer in the capture source to channelchanger.exe and have {channel} as the parameter.

Cheers
