I downloaded a trial of ArcSoft TMT and that played the file ok, but ArcSoft filters don't work in other apps.

Was it the WinTV version of ArcSoft's decoder that you used?

Yes, it was WinTV's version of the ArcSoft decoder.

I've had some success, DivX plus codec pack has an aac decoder and it seems to work.

Does that decoder work with NPVR? I've not tried it myself, but I hadnt seen any comments in the past indicating it worked.

You might find with your TMT trial, that you just needed to use regsvr32 to register the .ax files in 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft\MPEG Engine' to get the directshow filters available in 3rd party apps.

Yep.

The DivX aac decoder seems to work fine in NPVR, just watched an hour or so time-shifted without any problems. Completed and in-progress recordings seems to play fine as well, so fingers crossed it seems to be a solution.
Only stereo output, but I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the filter or if the broadcasts are only stereo.

I tried reg'ing the filters from the ArcSoft trial but no luck. I read a thread on AVFoums that suggested it might be possible with a bit of effort for full versions of ArcSoft products but not for the trial versions.

Well it seems the Divx decoder can't cope with changes to the audio stream. I think the broadcasters might be switching between 5.1 and stereo.

If a recording starts as 5.1 and then changes to stereo playback speeds up and remains so until it switches back to 5.1.

Cyberlink PDVD8 decodes the audio and handles the changes but isn't available to third party apps either.

Does the sample above have the change in the audio stream ? (so I can test it out with the unlocked SAF codec pack that I use)

No I don't think the sample has an audio change in it.

The changes seem to happen at some programme changes and ad breaks.

I'll try to produce a sample with one of these changes in it, might be a bit tricky to do though.
