Two recurring (and simultaneous) recordings have gone wrong twice in the last 24 hours. Any ideas much appreciated.

Logs attached. See the end of Nrecord.log.1 in the logs zip.

2010-12-13 18:32:00.312 [INFO][7] No more streams active. Stopping device.
2010-12-13 18:32:00.312 [DEBUG][7] About to request async graph stop
2010-12-13 18:32:00.312 [DEBUG][18] Graph stopping... (async)
2010-12-13 18:32:08.312 [DEBUG][7] Async stop taking way too long
2010-12-13 18:32:08.312 [DEBUG][7] Removing filter MPEG-2 Sections and Tables
2010-12-14 06:57:55.296 [DEBUG][40] CancelRecording(1232)

I came down in the morning and the two shows from 6pm the previous evening were still shown as "recording". I had to stop the recording service to clear it but had missed a number of recordings in the meantime (reported as failed - recording service not runnng at time of recording). The two problem recordings (Simpsons/Xfiles) exist but are only about 15 seconds long each (looks like 15 secs at the start).

Today something happened with the same two recordings (which are recurring recordings) - see Nrecord.log.1. in logs2.zip at the end. This time I got home from work at about 19.30 and the server was switched off. Wife and kids are adamant that no-one has touched it and I accessed it remotely at lunchtime so it was on then. Digital clocks around the house are OK so no power outage. Also seems like whatever happened happened just as those same two recordings were about to start - weird.

I have seen some threads from the summer with recordings reported as failed but actually OK. This seems to be different.

There are some references in the log to not finding BDA filter for WinTV 885 tuner. This is my HVR-1700 which has been removed (and disabled in NPVR). The new card is a Hauppauge TD500 twin DVB-T (shown in the logs as MOD7700).

The obvious solution is to cancel the recurring recording but I would like to try and identify the problem to prevent it happening again.

Many thanks.

a sudden shutdown like that indicates a serious driver crash, or perhaps a power supply problem. There was probably a blue screen of death, had anyone been there to see it.

the first problem where it goes to stop a recording and hangs forever is a known issue I've struggled with since GB-PVR. However I have not had this occur in well over a month, perhaps even two (whereas it used to happen at least once a week). Do you have all the current patches installed? The async graph stop to combat this problem was new in 1.5.33, and it initially didn't completely work. While sub didn't release a patch specifically to improve the async stop, I think he did make some changes to that code which was then included when he released patch files for other fixes. I'm working on the assumption that improvements to that code is why I haven't seen this problem since shortly after 1.5.33 was released.

thanks for looking at this. I will keep an eye on the crash issue but it was ok tonight. I saw the posts about the issue previously and have the 1533 patches2 installed. I will monitor and advise if it reccurrs but for now have deleted the offending recording.

For info I have now successfully set up a server with two pc clients and a further share via serviio to a sony bravia tv. I can record all tv on the server and watch in four locations around the house. And my wife is still speaking to me!

an excellent piece of software (but a bit of a learning curve - "nothing worth doing is ever easy"). Donation coming shortly.

I have one remaining issue with vob playback giving all language audio tracks at once but have an idea or two to try before posting tnat one.

best wishes
