I checked, and I get audio all the way through with the ArcSoft decoder.

With the Monogram decoder decoder I get farts and pops for the first 5 seconds, then silence.

I've, err, managed to to test the WinTV version of the Arcsoft decoder.

For me in NPVR I get no sound at all. When I tried to play the file in WinTV I did get sound but during the 5.1 part it exhibited the same as the software bundled with the device, ie fluctuating volume. It did decode the stereo part ok though and didn't speed up when the audio changed.

When I tried to build a graph in graphstudio the Arcsoft decoder (WinTV ver.) wouldn't connect to the aac output pin of the demux filter. The graph was NPVR TS reader -> MPEG-2 Demultiplexer ->

There has been a small change to the next release related to the AAC pin, which might account for why I'm getting with ArcSoft decoder and you're not.

The audio did start a bit rough for the first few seconds of the file you supplied, before settling down and playing ok.. It could of been fluctuating volume - hard to tell.

The fluctuating I've noticed seems to be noticeable on dialogue mostly.

The change to the aac pin might possibly have an effect on that as well as the connection problem. I've read that decoders can have a bit of trouble correctly decoding these broadcast he-aac streams as they sometime get mis-identified, maybe that would explain it.

Still at least I have a solution of sorts, Divx aac if it doesn't get confused by the changes and PDVD8 to play the problem recordings, not ideal but at least it's workable. Of course PDVD can't play in progress recordings and live TV could be a problematic but I rarely watch live so it'll do for now.

I just installed this DVB-T2 device too, and also had no audio. It worked perfectly with the Monogram decoder that Sub hinted about here in Sweden with the SVT HD channels. Thanx for the tip Sub!

Great.

In Sweden are they using DVB-T2 for HD channels, and continuing to use DVB-T for existing channels?

There is a mix of solutions in Sweden at the moment:

The new HD channels are all DVB-T2 + mpeg4 (Audio is HE-AAC and AC3)
Some SD channels are DVB-T + mpeg4 (Audio unknown, I havent got this to work yet, need to register my smartcard)
Most channels are still DVB-T + mpeg2 (Audio is MPA and for some AC3)

The SVT1 HD and SVT2 HD channels are unencrypted. All other HD channels are encrypted.

I think in the long run all channels will be DVB-T2/mpeg4, but they cannot force the technology switch as most people have just bought new TV sets with only DVB-T + mpeg4. So for a forseable future only HD channels will be on DVB-T2.

Here we have a problem for me because softcams do not work with mpeg4. There is some encryption in the CAM protocol that needs an encryption key that is embedded in the MPEG4 CAM (CI+). Unless someone can crack the key, softcam decryption is futile...

It may be that full CI+ support in NPVR is necessary to view the mpeg4 channels. I.e to insert a HW Boxer CAM and the smartcard in there. Is that possible with any DVB-T2 tuner today?

As of today, as I have read in some forums that Boxer in Sweden has disabled the encryption key, so softcams do work ATM. But it may soon change again.
