I'm converting from GBPVR to NPVR and see that there are differences in the configuration module. I've installed the latest release (1.5.33) and have a few issues. For starters,
1- I can't seem to figure out where XMLTV.XML file is it suppose to be for NPVR to see it and load it?
2- where do I go in NPVR to point NPVR to where the XMLTV file is?
3- then how do you upload the EPG into NPVR?
4- and lastly, how do you map the channels to it?

Thanks

Item 1 does seem to be a point of confusion. Your XMLTV.XML goes where you want it to go (most of the time it will be stored with your EPG grabber; I recommend creating a directory like C:\EPG). When you map your first channel, you will point NPVR to your XMLTV.XML file; then when you click Bulk Map, you will point the rest of your channels to the same file. NPVR doesn't care where the file is, only that it stays in the same place.
The mapping is all done on the Channels screen in setup. You map the first channel by clicking it then selecting Details. After that you can hit Bulk Map and map the rest of the channels quickly. Finally click Update EPG to read in your XMLTV.XML.
Lastly, you may wonder about the UpdateEPG.bat; it goes in the Scripts directory under the NPVR [DATA] directory. It is usually very simple:
Code:
cd \epg
--command to execute epg grabber--
as long as UpdateEPG.bat results in an updated XMLTV.XML, then NPVR will take care of the rest each night.

Reddwarf - appreciate your input, but, I'd already done that before posting this request. Unfortunately I didn't see any answers to my question. If there's a paragraph you can point me to then that would be greatRolleyes

johnsonx42 - REALLY appreciate you taking the time to responded in great detail. I hope you keep it up. Wink

Let me put the question another way. I'm a novice first time user and I've just installed 1.5.33 for the First Time. When I go to Setting - Channel all I see is a blank page with 5 buttons at the bottom (not counting the OK and CANCEL buttons). There are no channels listed. How do I get the channels load so that I can map them. I may be wrong but I'm assuming that the channels come from the XMLTV file. How do I tell NPVR that my XMLTV file reside in F:\EPG? Do I modify the CONFIG.XML file?

are you using digital or analog? for digital you have to scan for your channels and enable them on the devices screen first. for analog I think you do load the EPG first, but I've never setup analog so I don't know quite how it's done. in any case, no you do not modify the config.xml file

You need to visit the 'Devices' screen, view the settings for the device you want to setup channels on, and either scan on a digital device, or import the channels on an analog device. After this you'll see channels listed in the Channels screen.

Having to get xmltv files etc was a huge stumbling block for new users trying GBPVR, so with NPVR I wanted the app to be useable for new users without having to worry about XMLTV files and EPGs. ie, start app, scan for channels, and you're done. Those that want to use xmltv can then map their channels to xmltv files if they want - but they dont have to.

Sub,
Do you support Silcondust HDHomeRun dual Tuners? Following your steps (Settings - Device) I show both tuners in QAM & ATSC but neither of them have any channels showing in the table. After I do a Device Setup - Scan on either device type with various options, still no channels appear. Any idea why?

sub almost always says that's almost aways a firewall issue. disable any and all firewalls and try again... once you know it works without the firewall, then you can re-enable it and work on making the necessary firewall exceptions.

Yep, what he said. On a HDHR is nearly always a firewall issue.
