Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem playing back some mpg's that I have. I noticed this with version 1.5.33 with all the patches, 1.5.36, and 1.5.36 with the patches. The issues are:

1) The timeline is incorrect. For example, one video will be 1:01:43 but the timeline will show 3:13:25. Both Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player will show 1:01:43. This particular file is 13.6 GB.
2) When I skip forward, it seems that it will start to skip forward from the last time I skipped forward. So, if I skipped forward up until the 5 minute mark, watched 10 minutes, and then attempted to skip forward again, it would start back at the 5 minute mark.
3) Occasionally the video/audio will randomly freeze. I am able to hit ESC, wait about a minute, and then it will exit and return back to the list of videos.
4) Occasionally the audio will get out of sync.

I tried using different video/audio decoders but that didn't seem to help. One interesting thing that I've noticed is that since I've changed from using FFDShow from my video/audio decoders, it still uses them.

Thanks for your help.

The duration of this .mpg file is derived from the source or demultiplexer filter.

In your logs, I can see by the lack of MPEG-2 Demultiplexer or MPEG-2 Splitter filter that you've changed <ForceMpgGraph> to false, leaving you at the mercy of your system to pick a source/demultiplexer for these files. I have no idea which one it's picking, but whatever one it is, it's reporting the incorrect duration.

I don't know if it is related but I found out today on my Win7 box that using the default Win7 DTV_DVD decoders I couldn't play mpeg-ps files. I installed K-Lite Basic and bingo it worked. The config screen doesn't give any indication of what changed.

13 gigs for an hour show!!!?? that must be wrong...maybe multi-record?
even the highest bitrate atsc shows i see are under 7 for an hour...

oh, you may want to try diff demux...try <MpgUsingSplitter>true</MpgUsingSplitter> in config...
but it seems like something else is going on there..

I'm guessing that if <ForceMpgGraph> is set to true by default, then maybe SAF may have changed it? I tried setting it to true and I just get a black screen with a timeline of 0. I also tried changing <MpgUsingSplitter> to true but that didn't seem to help neither. I tried VLC and that reported it correctly.

Good point on the file size. Definitely a tad bit larger than it should be. I tried another one of those mpg files and everyone reported it to be 1:02, but npvr reported it to be about 1:38. That file size is 7+GB.

These mpg files that I'm having problems with came from me transferring the last season of Lost from my DishNetwork PVR. I used an AverMedia HD capture device along with their MediaCenter software. This software was configured to capture mpeg-2 format in 1920x1080, 15000 video quality, 48000 audio sample rate, and 320 audio quality. I found some software "MPEG-2 Validator" and ran it against one of the files and the file failed the compliance test.

If it is these files, then that's fine. Once I finally watch them, they'll be getting deleted.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Yeah, its sounding a lot like it's something funky with these files.
