Just installed NPVR today and having a few problems...

Installed NPVR (with no patches), fired it up, configured the decoders, devices etc, scanned for and found channels, etc.

Selected to watch live TV and successfully got a picture and sound. Hit escape to go back to the menu, then tried to go back to live TV and I get "unable to communicate with recording service".

NPVR.log shows:
Unexpected error calling StartStream(): System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Server stack trace:
at VariantClear(tagVARIANT* )
at Native.DigitalRecorderBase.GetCaptureFilter(IBaseFilter* pTunerFilter)
at Native.DigitalRecorderBase.BuildGraph(String deviceFilter, Int32 deviceInstance, Int32 commonInterface, Int32 commonInterfaceInstances, String& message)
Logs attached from this point.

If I quit, restart and try again, I get a message "Device failed to start" (secondgo.zip set of logs attached). Bouncing the NPVR service resets the issue back to the beginning.

Been a long time very happy GBPVR user on XP but on the new Windows 7 media PC I built I couldn't get it restarting from suspend or hibernate properly as it wouldn're restart/connect to the Nova-T (USB) device, so I've been using other things until NPVR became stable (couldn't wait any longer...). I'm keen to get back to the application I like!

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Cheers,
Ed

I think I know the cause of this, and it has been fixed for the next release.

We're just about to start testing that next release. It'll probably be publically available in 2 - 3 weeks.

"Unexpected error calling StartStream(): System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

I am getting this same error, with version 1.5.36, with all the patches applied that are suggested on the NPVR Sticky. Does DEP have to be turned off, or NPVR need to be added to the OK list?

I've also encountered the following weirdness:
I have two hauppage devices, a 250 and a 1600, both used as analog, and only the 1600 works, even though both are enabled, and present. Two sets of channels show up in my Channel listings, one for each device, but only the channels on one work. The other one says "Unable to find available capture device". Both of these worked with GB-PVR, previously. I have the drivers installed, and the WinTV7 .ax components.

Also, when I'm in live TV, and I change a channel, the screen freezes up, and occasionally changes the channel after about a 45+ seconds.

Finally, can the aspect ratio be set so it sticks? Every time I go in, I seem to need to change it again to "fill" from "auto".

Any help would be fantastic; Thank you sub, for making such a great system. Thanks everyone else for all the useful contributions.

Can you post the log so I can see the complete error message?

What device are you using?

Prompt! I actually hit the Post accidentally, and was finishing my message when you replied. Your post time seems strange.., I'm in Vancouver, Canada, and your in New Zealand.... I don't think you're an hour ahead of me... in your time, or mine.

And just for clarification on the devices, they show up as:
Analog Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture
Analog Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCII Capture
ATSC Hauppauge TV418 BDA Tuner
QAM Hauppauge TV418 BDA Tuner

All present & Enabled.

Your logs look like you have the hardware encoder problem fixed in this patch: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post398553 (ie, hardware encoder not being detected, and an error when it tries to fall back to using the software encoder)

Quote:Does DEP have to be turned off, or NPVR need to be added to the OK list?
I've never had to fiddles with the DEP settings to run NPVR.

Quote:Also, when I'm in live TV, and I change a channel, the screen freezes up, and occasionally changes the channel after about a 45+ seconds.
Nothing really springs to mind, but reproduce it and repost the logs and I'll take a look.

Hmm... I have the unmanaged.dll that is newer than that version above installed. I replaced it with the one you mentioned above and it doesn't change anything.

I've reattached the logs. The channel changing in live TV happens each time, it's not sporadic.

Hih, Other than AF9015 can do this error also.

Using ffdshow decoder causes that in my system.
