I checked the logs, It turns out DirectX wasn't installed correctly, When I downloaded and installed it, the problem went away - so did a whole lot of others, it was really slow navigating network folders but now that's fixed too.

I've put a small red warning message in the Settings screen in the next release to let the user know if the DirectX components arent found.

When I checked the logs I found that DirectX 9c wasn't installed, After I installed it the problem went away. Previously it was also very slow browsing network folders (several second delays after clicking on a folder to browse), but after installing DirectX this is also fixed.

yeah but on xp directx 9c still sucks now my video playback is shit

The video playback should have nothing to do with directx, I'd try changing decoder/renderer and their setings.
