as a wiki person I would really like to start encouraging people to look there, it is 2 clicks away from this forum Big Grin

Or 1 from here:

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php

nearly everything you need to know is there already Wink

Thanks for the direct link to the correct location in the WIKI (and found the "settings" link

... however ...

as time goes by it seems to baffle me why the "manual" isn’t with the software, i have read the WIKI about the software, that said this is laid out very different to the current (and very stable) GBPVR...

SO i clicked a link to the "support forum", received an answer, however as this answer was the result rather than the method to get there "right click then settings" i naturally did that (find settings) the same way i would with the current version installed (which i did mention in the first question), which didnt get me "settings", so posted another question with pictures (this question), then have another link to get to the answer....

upshot is, can we please have a direct link to the manual (which seems to be in the WIKI) NEXT TO the download location of the software, that will stop questions arrising as to where items are that have been moved from the original design.

As a network specialists it seems to be getting very hard to find documentation to find out how things work without raising a support ticket that is then escalated to 2nd line support which then has to be forward to the Northern Europe division as to the new location of the "new" software manuals when they should have really come with the software that was downloaded....

This isnt a poke at anyone, rather a nudge to say "put a link to the manual with the software" OR put the manual WITH the software

Many Thanks
Ashley

Hi Ashley,

I can't presume to reply on behalf of Sub or others. But I don't think/believe that a manual as such would/could ever be supplied WITH the software. HOWEVER I think some of your points will be addressed with the new NextPVR Webpages that are being developed. GB-PVR was/is quite a different beast from NextPVR and NextPVR really should be treated as such, it is not GB-PVR new version. It is NextPVR.

The new webpages should help to tie everything together, a jumping off point to download the software, refer to the manual (wiki) or jump to the forums. Hopefully this will address some thoughts such as yours. Of course all of this takes time to put together as all of those involved are doing it

a) for fun and interest
b) in spare time

cheers

could we at least get links to both changelog[main download page] and wiki on about tab of settings? and maybe the excellent getting started page Big Grin [at least while still in beta]
then users would have links to info as soon as they open settings..

I for one would certainly echo much of this sentiment. However I guess stuff like this would only happen with the next release of NextPVR? And also I guess it is a question of timing. Of course this is Sub's call and all depends on where NPVR's home is going to be?

i.e. currently wiki is located @ URL base http://www.gbpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php ........ will this soon be http://www.nextpvr.com/pmwiki.php ?

I think really this has to be passed over to Sub Big Grin
