Hi all. I'm having 2 problems with subtitles when watching digital terrestrial TV.

First of all, the picture pauses very very briefly every time the subtitles update and also occasionally stutters or breaks up. I've checked the CPU usage (about 60% max) and tried altering the process priority in Task Manager but no change. The picture is fine when subtitles are turned off, which brings me to the other problem...

I can't turn the subtitles off once I've turned them on! Ctrl-X enables them... what key combination disables them? So far I've had to close nPRV and restart it to get rid of the subtitles.

Thanks for your help

There is no turning off.... yet. What graphic card are you using?

Dunno the exact model I'm afraid as it was one of those anonymous contraptions from the far east, bought on ebay. The chipset however shows up as AF9035, although nPVR identifies it as an AF9015 instead. Most things still work after a fashion but I've got lots of issues with nPVR here and here.

I know from own experience that some onboard gr.cards can't cope with both video and graphics at the same time. What other issues do you have? Could they be related?

Npvr can't handle dvb-subtitles here in Finland, yet. There is nothing wrong in your hardware. Ei toimi, ni ei toimi.

Some of the other issues...

I can't switch from windowed mode to fullscreen mode with Alt-enter. The app goes to fullscreen but sticks with the message "please wait" and never resumes playing video, and the only way to do anything at all after that is to kill nPVR with ctrl-alt-del. In windowed mode, resizing the window often causes the same problem. If I set nPVR to start in fullscreen mode, however, or start it in windowed mode and leave the size alone, that does work.

Regardless of aspect ratio settings, every time I start nPVR I get black borders at the top & bottom of the window until I resize it. As soon as I begin to resize the window the first time, it jumps to the correct size - without black borders - before continuing with the resize. This happens even if I have set nPVR to use the previous aspect ratio settings on startup.

Scanning for channels causes nPVR to crash with an unhandled exception unless I do a forced manual scan of one frequency at a time.

The OSD sometimes stays on screen and won't go away until the nPVR is restarted.

I've also got the same directx issue as in this thread - nPVR says directx runtime is not available, even though I've followed the instructions regarding patches and updates exactly.

Note that I've previously had subtitles working with DTV in both windowed and fullscreen mode using BlazeDTV 3.5.

sub Wrote:I can see its successfully decoding all the subtitles, but the broadcaster is immediately sending a clear screen command a few millseconds later (for a future timestamp), and this is confusing the subtitle decoder. Most broadcasters just send the clear screen command when its time to clear the subtitles from the screen.

At this time Sub made some test batch for this issue, but it only got subtitles visible. Subtitle decoder still remain confused, with timing and when should show, and when not.
This can be avoided watching files with for example VLC-player, which can show subtitles right. (live-tv not work, ofcourse)

Same here. I live in Finland too. DVB-T subtitles have problems with timing.
