I am a little fustrated. I am always looking for to updates, but when I made the switch to nPVR, it has been very fustrating.

First and foremost, my computer has issues just starting up, never had theat issue with gb-pvr.

Second, no matter what combination of drivers I get choppy Live TV and recordings. Does not even help with playing the recordings thru VLC.

I tried the ffshow thingy and it only got worse. Then uninstalled the ffshow and part of my orginal decoders are gone.

So after 7 days of fighting nPVR, I was going to download gb-pvr becasue that worked for me, but I cannot find it anywhere on the internet to download.

I was planning on upgrading my computer one of these days, but it looks like I am forced to spend money now instead of later.

I do love the look and feel of nPVR, but it has really messed things up for me.

Matt

npvr hasn;t messed anything up, it doesn't touch your gbpvr installation. The 2 apps can happily live side by side.
Changing drivers and uninstalling/installing codecs, not keeping your install files or a decent image backup is why you are in a mess.
no one is forcing you to spend money. it is your choice.
(sorry but if you just going to whine, so am I)

Can you not use the XP system restore to roll back the updates to before you installed npvr?

I am not aware of anyone running npvr on old hardware like this. Most npvr users are on dual cores with windows 7.
Sub may be able to offer a view on whether this old hardware might work and I am sure people on the forum would be happy to try and help you get it up and running if Sub felt it was viable.

I'll give you that it was my fault for deleteing gb-pvr in the first place. The problems of the computer freezing/locking up started right after I installed nPVR. I followed the recomendations, installing WIN 7, installing the patches and such and without doing anything else the computer was locking up. Once I got to a point when I could start nPVR, I set it up exactly like GB-PVR and I was having issues, black screen and recordings locking up. That is when I started tinkering with the filters, thinking I was just lucky up to this point with not having to do too muchwork to get GB-PVR to work. So I set to reading the forums and tried different things.

I am sorry about ranting, I am just very fustrated I did not even think about rolling the computer back 1 week or so until talking with someone here. I may have to do that. I actually really like nPVR and do not want to go back, but if I must I must. I have a biostar MB TA785a2+ board and a geforce 240 card for an upgrade but I have not secured the money for the AMD triple core, fan and memory. Now it looks as though I might have to upgrade to windows 7 as well. Hurry up income tax refund.

I do really appreciate all the help that this board does give.

btw: I don;t think your old barton and mobo are supported by windows 7 so lockups may be a symptom of not having the correct drivers. I really don;t think that combo will work. (I rebuild an old NF7-S and barton 2500+ a few months ago for a friend and I recall looking into this).

I do have a copy of gbpvr 1.4.7 I can upload (over the weekend) if you have an ftp server or someone else may already have a copy they can let you have more quickly. btw: The SAF codec pack works well with gbpvr and npvr if you still have codec problems (search forum)

I think you meant WINTV 7 here & that is the confusion for gEd.

your problems may just be coincidental with installing NPVR. there's no good reason you can't run NPVR on that system. NPVR has no greater hardware requirements than GB-PVR. I do have a dual-core athlon64, but for the basic NPVR recording and playback functions it barely gets above idle. Recording takes maybe 5% of the CPU, playback very little more (though much credit for that goes to the HD4550 GPU; your 7600gs is less powerful, but should still do fine). Most of the cpu power in my system goes to things like comskip, netflix, hulu.

I suggest you carefully examine your mainboard for bulging or popped capacitors - your board is the right vintage for that problem. also try another power supply if you have one on hand.

I do have a 600w PSU for the new build, I could use that in the mean time. I will look for buldgin caps as well. I was also going to try and reinstall the drives for everything on the system.

Thanks, again.
