What is VMR9? I just reinstalled XP due to a motherboard upgrade and now GBPVR gives this message when I try to open it.

"Sorry, this system does not support the required VMR9 video render."

All drivers and updates are installed and up to date as far as I can tell. I've tried all the suggestions posted in other threads but nothing is working.

Graphics on the old board was the onboard HD4200, new graphics is onboard HD4290. Not a lot of difference.

If I use Overlay manager GBPVR opens and seems to work OK.

What's the difference between VMR9 and Overlay manager though? Should I be looking to fix VMR9?

Thanks for your help.

Are you sure that you have directx 9c installed and the latest graphics drivers from Intel (rather than using what XP found).
run dxdiag to check directx version.

I used to get this when starting gbpvr from startup folder. the cause was that the graphics card/driver hadn;t woken up / enabled directx before gbpvr started. when I killed and restarted gbpvr, it was fine.

I can;t even recall when I last had to use overlay. I thought the main issue was that the overlay could not be displayed as transparent (so what). I am tempted to say if the picture looks ok, just stick with overlay but others may explain why that is dumb advice :-)

Yep dx9c is installed, I used the drivers from the MB's homepage http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product...id=3516#dl

One thing I didn't do was install the compro software, untill I had this problem then saw some listed on WU so tried those but no luck.

If I knew what WMR9 was/does it would be a lot easyer to troubleshoot. Not found anything useful yet though..

it's the renderer, Video Mixing Renderer 9 [from directx9] that allows mixing osd with playing video...
you have windows directx damage or incorrect video driver install..i'd get latest ati driver instead of MB's drivers...worth a try..mb drivers are typically older and sometimes tweaked to the point of breaking them...
dxdiag i bet will show some errors, tho it may not and still have directx problems..

it's the last component in the chain that hands the decoded video over to the video card to display it..so has to be working properly for anything to work..
[it basically uses direct3d to display it, imagine placing a cube in front of your screen, and projecting the video on to it, enabling the video cards 3d engine to accelerate the video as if it were a 3d game...Smile]

"allows mixing osd with playing video"
The osd isn't working in MPC, I just presumed it was a setting, guess it's a simptom of the dx9 problem instead.

dxdiag is reporting no problems and I ran the tests which passed. Also found some slightly newer display drivers here http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/P...-32.aspx#2

Still no go, would reinstalling dx9 fix any issues it may have? Apart from that I'm thinking of another reinstall. I love windows Smile

yea, sounds like a windows thing...tho that mb does have lots of mb drivers, not just the video card part...without all the mb and video drivers you'll get that error as well..['southbridge' driver in ATI optional downloads] and i think the gart driver too..and i would also get the media codec package too..[avivo]
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-2_xp32_dd_ccc_enu.exe [display driver without app]
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/P...-32.aspx#3 avivo and southbridge, tho sb may be included above..
do you have sp2? i would at least have that one, or sp3 if you can..and the vbupdate in install thread..and dot.net 2 or better..

osd isn't working in mpc? media player classic? it doesn't really have an osd..and gotta check it's output renderer...it may be using overlay also..
gbpvr's osd won't show on any other players..

when winblows messes up that bad,i just reinstall and backup after it gets back working..Big Grin

Make sure you installed correct GPU drivers.

If still not working, install SAF5 (link below). After instalation, LOGs file is created on your system root.
Post it here.

pBS, yeah media player clasic http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ The volume and video possition and displayed over the picture when you change them, this is OSD?
Your first link doesn't work btw, it's leech protected.

hoborg, those are the same as in my link above, just at a different place, so I have those installed Wink
Just installed SAF5, looks really good btw, still not working though. Here are the logs, two things that stand out:

Quote:GPU driver version: unknown date: 1-26-2011
VMR9 ver.: 6.5.2600.5933 status Failed!
Unknown and failed?

SAF-Logs.7z

and here are the gbpvr settings and dxdiag screens. Thanks for your help.

Edit: Live tv doesn't work now after installing SAF.
Edit: All video files now crash MPC.

You installed old SAF4 - SAF4 is outdated, please install latest SAF5 and repost SAF LOGs.

There is something wrong with your GPU drivers...
