Okay, this is my first tuner, and i was told this is a really good program. Here is my setup i have a Hauppauge PVR 250, I have a splitter from my satelite reciever to my tuner. Now all i want to do is watch what is on playing on the reciever in the other room, no changing the channels or anything from my tuner. Strictly just want to use my PC as a second TV, allowing me to watch what is on in the other room. I cant for the life of me figure out how to allow me to do this. It keeps telling me i have to download EPG stuff. Please help me out. Thanks

IF that's all you want to do then GBPVR is WAY overkill. It's a great app, but if you don't want a tv guide (EPG) or recording capability, then just get something like ChrisTV, or just use WinTV2000 to watch the S-video output from your receiver.

Thank you for your quick reply, I eventually want to backup all my VHS tapes to DVD, and someone told me this program does it all. Also I will be moving shortly where i will be using cable and needing a guide, also i wouldnt mind to record some shows eventually right now i want to get this setup. Right now i have been getting an error when i click live TV it says: "Failed to locate configured capture device" But when i go to Tuning Assistance, i see picture I hvae no audio but i do have picture, and then it says it has to tune it in so it goes fuzzy, while it goes through all the channels and then stays fuzzy after that. Now iam using coaxile cable not S-video, so i do know it wont be the best quality. Also my sound problem (no sound) any Advice will be greatly appriciated Thanks for your time

For backing up tapes, you dont need nothing but the app that comes with the card. Also, coaxial is no good. Use S-video whenever you can. Before trying to watch tv through GBPVR, make sure you can through WinTV2000. After that, go and setup the card by clicking config in gbpvr, if you want the guide and live in the US/Canada choose zapit on the EPG Source. You need a free account with this before you are able to pull the list.

Yeah, to backup tapes just use the Hauppauge WinTV2000 software. It's much more suited to this job.

Make sure you dont have WinTv2000 muted... the little button below the volume slider. Just a thought! Smile
