Most (all?) of my TS files recorded with NPVR have a problem when played in VLC. Basically, the timing info is missing. VLC shows the current position/total length as 00:00/00:00. It is also unable to skip very well (i.e. not at all).

NPVR deals with it perfectly. I also have problems if I try and play them on a WD TV Live.

If the broadcast stream is not including valid timing information - which I can only assume, as NPVR just dumps this to the file - is there some form of postprocessing I can do to fix this?

VLC and the WD players are definitely not good indicators of what makes a good ts file. Upload a 100MB sample to megaupload or mediafire and I can use a few tools I have to check it.

NPVR just records whatever the broadcaster transmits. They always include timing information in those broadcasts, since they're need for any playback device. Often they'll make shows up from segments with different timelines though, and stitch them together. Some players dont like this, which might be what you're experiencing.

If it bothers you, you might be able to remux the file with something like tsremuxer or videoredo. I've never done it myself though, so cant offer much advice.

OK, 50MB at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DW6QNDO6

I would be grateful for any information and suggestions. I have tried mpegrepair and some ffmpeg conversions. If I do a complete conversion to H264, it seems to work, but this is a lot of effort.

Is this that a source file or a post-processed? If it is certainly not typical broadcast quality.

Umm, I used the following command to trim it to 50MB - it still shows the same problems.
"c:\Program Files\FFMpeg\bin\ffmpeg.exe" -i "The Lost World Jurassic Park_20101016_19002145.ts" -y -t 00:10:00 jp.ts
That file is such low bitrate, I can't believe it is broadcast. Could you try 50MB again with sub's utility. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post403907

Yes it was enough. As it turns out I would rate that a very high quality ts file and it passes all utilities with flying colours. It doesn't play well in vlc, but NPVR, the NMT and MPC-HD have no troubles with it.

Yeah, I think VLC is a bit crappy at .ts playback.
