Sony video card (ENX-26) support?

Sony video card (ENX-26) support?

Hey guys,

I saw that my original post has received 18 sets of eyeballs but no comments. Please help if possible! I tried using Sage TV and was severely disappointed. The continued search brought me to NPVR, and this seems more like a "community".

Given my Sage TV experience I know that my card is working (and the correct drivers installed), so what do I need to do to get NPVR to recognize the card (device)? Is this something that GB-PVR would have addressed OK but just isn't yet built into NPVR?

I'm running Windows XP or this wouldn't be an issue. I was running the XP Media Center Edition on the older machine, so support was "natural". I'm not yet running Windows 7, where support would again be "natural". I'm in the doughnut hole, so to speak, and would love to be able to record programs for later viewing. Seems a shame to have a card but not be able to take advantage of it...

Many thanks, Jeff

I saw your last post and was hoping you would try to follow the instructions for Hauppauge cards and see if they work. It couldn't hurt.

GBPVR wouldnt have worked with this device at all.

You might be able to get it work with NPVR, but you'll need to follow the advice for installing Hauppauge SoftPVR, and adding a section to the AnalogDevices.xml file. Since this is a device I've never heard of though, we cant be sure it'd work until you try it.

Digital devices are much better supported, and dont need any of this extra stuff. Also, common analog devices like the Hauppauge ones work without having to add stuff to xml files etc.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses! I'm doing some Windows updates, and once that's done I'll try to follow the Hauppauge path.

BTW, I used to have a Hauppauge external device as well, but that got fried during a thunderstorm. Power is pretty spotting in general here, and as a result I've smoked 4 power supplies, my old Hauppauge device, a "built-in" board, and now a mother board. I'm on my third UPS/surge-protector, and have my fingers crossed...

Anyways, thanks again and should be able to report back within the hour...

pBS and I had this card working in GBPVR, but not with the tuner (at least I dont believe pBS did). We just got composite/svideo working, and that worked real well. Neither of us have tried it in NPVR (yet) as of a PM to each other about 1-2 months ago. Discussion related to that card was here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ht=encoder

I have some free time on my hands lately so I might attack this project too. Plan on putting it back into my previous GBPVR machine that was a VGC-RA834G (where it originally came from) and try out the new NPVR!

Let us know how you get along, and I will too when I dig into it.

Sounds like the surge protector likes to pass on the hurt.
Look at a beefier UPS like a APC power conditioner might be needed.

anyway some info from shspvr's forum dated 2005.

Anyone Recognize this Card?
« on: January 15, 2005, 05:27:41 PM »
it has a Conexant MPEG II decoder chip CX23416
Sony CXD9795AR
Philips SAA7115HL

On the PCB it has Sony made in japan
1-860-696-31 ENX-26

Inside the tuner is also Sony on the PCB

Win XP recognizes it as Multimedia Card but i do not have the
drivers.

I am pretty sure this, or the parent directory will give you the inf and sys files you need to update the cards drivers smrt.inf and smrt.sys ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/Vaio/MPEG_ENCODER/

The whole "Gigapocket" gamete here, but I dont think you will need it ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/Vaio/GIGAPOCKET/ or here http://members.driverguide.com/driver/de...rid=782501

Sounds like you already have the drivers if you got it to work in SageTV... inn device manager it should show up as "Sony MPEG RealTime encoder board". Then you know you got the right drivers... you dont want Multimedia device blah blah... Big Grin

JeffP...It is the same chip as a PVR 250 but a lot of talk on other forums of sony Vaio specific design.
Even Snooze had it in a Sony Laptop and had issues as he replied.

Good Luck and let us know how it did.

The Vaio link you included above seems more than reasonable to me. I hadn't found that before and instead downloaded it from http://www.general-search.net/go/9741616503. I had to endure a 45s wait, but there are worse things in life...

I still have my original Hauppauge install CD for WinTV 2000. I was able to download the updater to the WinTV7, but ran into a little trouble with the SoftPVR .bat file because the new version of WinTV7 is 2.3b whereas the embedded code was set up to use 2.2d. I renamed the .exe to 2.2d and then ran .bat again and it ran smoothly.

However, even after installing the SoftPVR the Devices tab still doesn't see my Sony card. The next step in the instructions call for me to run FilterCheck and refers to Post 3:

Some Analog devices will also need an appropriate entry added to the AnalogDevices.xml file; if your analog device won't show up after successfully installing the SoftPVR components, run FilterCheck (see post 3), and post a support request thread with your FilterCheck.log attached as a .zip file. Here's a post from Sub that reminds me how to construct an AnalogDevices.xml entry, as I get tired of looking for it every time I want to make one for someone: http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread....495#post386495

I'm not sure what post 3 refers to yet exactly, but I'm trying to sort it out...

Anyway, sound like grudging progress!

BTW, I'm currently downstream of an APC BackUPS ES and have my fingers crossed...
