I had a hard drive crash, so a good time to start fresh with nPVR. I thought I had everything set, but I keep getting "unable to connect to recording service" error when I try to go to live tv.

When I go to setup it lists tuners "Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner" and when I scan it finds channels.

Is it odd that I actually have WinTV-HVR-2250?

Could that be the issue, and if so, a way to set it straight?

Thanks.

Have you allowed Nrecord.exe and NextPVR.exe in firewall settings?

The ap needs to go through the firewall to run live TV? In trying to get it to work, I installed WinTV that came with the board, and that seems to get live tv, but still the error with nPVR.

I can try the firewall settings later, but doesn't seem obvious to me...

Usually people wouldnt have to fiddle with the firewall settings, but there is TCP/IP communication between the front end and background recording server. The default Windows firewall fine with this communication happening, but we have seen a few people in the past using thirdparty firewalls that have blocked this communication, requiring the user to explicitly allow this.

I have experienced this on some installations with the windows firewall too. Once I even had to open the ports manually.

it wasn't the firewall, but I'm not sure exactly what did it. Likely it was a rebooting thing once I had it set up. I was a bad user, and fiddled with several things. Thanks for the help, I'll try to be better about tracking fixes.
