I seem to have changed something so that my old .mpg files dont play anymore. nPVR plays .ts, .flv and .dr-ms files. The .mpg files used to play and still do play on PVRX2, Media Player etc. What have I done wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong there has been a change in mpg handling in NPVR and the answer isn't simple. The first simple one is I see you do have ffdshow installed, if you use it you have to make sure it is configured for mpeg-2 decoding.

Is it an MPEG-1 file? Where did you get the .mpg file from - was it recorded by PVRX2?

also make sure in ffdshow you have set to use it when using npvr

its an MPEG2 file created by VideoRedo from recordings by PVRX2. I'm not sure what the correct ffdshow parameters are, but the problem is still there if I change to different filters. The ffdshow filters don't seem to get loaded as the icons don't appear in the tool bar.

I have cut a file with VideoRedo and checked that it still fails.

That plays fine for me. Perhaps your ffdshow is outdated.

It played fine for me in NPVR too.

You could maybe try setting <MpgUsingSplitter>true</MpgUsingSplitter> in the General section of config.xml. It'll cause it to do .mpg playback a slightly different way and it might help.

changing config altered the log entry but otherwise it was the same. I uninstalled ffdshow then re-installed it. All fixed. Thanks for all your help. Sorry to waste your time.
