I don’t really see why I need a graphics card with “pretty good performance”! Surly all that is required is a graphics card with “enough memory”, which for NPVR using a 1080p display is 128MB. To display 1920x1080 32bit colour, 64MB is enough but NPVR seems to use extra memory for “on screen displays”. As far as I am aware the only use for a high performance graphics processor is 3D graphics rendering mainly for games. I can see that perhaps some older motherboard graphics which use main RAM for video memory may not be up to the job. As I said previously my none graphics processor Nvidia Quadro NVS with 64MB memory gave excellent picture quality but lacked enough memory to display extra items like the “Time Bar”.

Rendering HD video is a pretty heavy job for a graphic card, in addition the databus and ram onboard must be fast enough to keep up with the datastream. I'm not familiar with how sub does the OSD, but I would guess that it uses some kind of overlay whick uses another portion of the memory onboard the card, so if all memory is used for the tv-picture there is nothing left for OSD.
