Does pressing Ctrl-S on your keyboard work? This is what your remote should be using for Stop.

Nope. But like imilne says: works for dvd's with menu's, not for dvd's without menu's. There I need right mouse => Stop. Now, my (hauppauge) remote doesn't have a "right mouse" button, so I then I need to take keyboard .

I dont suppose anyone has a small DVD with no menu I can download? Big Grin

I dont have one here, and I cant quite picture what is happening in the code in this scenario. I know I can make it stop when, but it'll adversely effect DVDs that do have a menu, and cause them to go straight back to the NPVR screens when you press stop during movie playback, rather than taking you to the DVD menus... so I really need to find a way to identify the DVD doesnt have a menu.

I'd rather it worked that way though - that is, pressing Stop takes you back to the NPVR menu rather than the DVD's menu. I'd prefer another key - ideally Home - to be used for jumping to the DVD's menu.

I guess I have two reasons for this: a) GBPVR does it this way, and I'm used to it, but b) it has the huge advantage that you can exit a DVD at any point and know it'll resume from that point (during video playback) when you come back to it later. And some DVDs can be a bit funny if you go back to the menu and then pick the wrong option to resume and end up restarting the movie.

If no-one has given you a short menu-less DVD by tomorrow I should be able to make one for you easily enough too.

Is it possible to resume a DVD in nPVR? Something the wife misses a lot from GBPVR.

Not yet, but hopefully it's on sub's todo list. Chapter skipping doesn't work yet either.

Here's a short menu-less DVD: http://rapidshare.com/files/456435337/Sample.zip (30MB).

(Still need to find the time to do more subtitle switching tests too)

Ok, here's one test, using the R2 version of The Prince of Egypt (real disc, not a rip).

The DVD's menu lists the available subtitles as English and Dutch (although there are English, Dutch and German soundtracks on it). Selecting either of these from the menu displays them correctly once playback starts.

However, if you try to toggle using Alt+Y, then NPVR shows options for English->Dutch->German->Disabled but only English (or Disabled) actually work. The other two options continue to show English.

Now, MPC-HC also lists these three languages for the subtitles, but it correctly displays English or Dutch subtitles when selected, and shows none if German is selected.

A badly authored (or mislabled) disc perhaps?

The attached patch should do that. I'm unable to detect if the DVD has a menu, so this was pretty much the only option available to me.

Ctrl-S will now stop playback and take the user to the NPVR screens. Home or Back can still be used to take playback back to the DVD menu (same as previously in NPVR).

Are you able to change languages with this DVD in Windows Media Player? This uses the same Microsoft DVD Navigator filter as NPVR uses.

Seems to work fine. Nice one.

One comment on it though. I'm not sure if DVD playback should drop into the video inset mode if you press Menu while the DVD's menu is visible. Some library views don't show the inset and it's not always obvious that it's happened. Also, some (annoying) menus play a lot of video before finally letting you make a selection, but they usually allow you to press menu again to skip to that point. That isn't possible if NPVR drops focus to the video inset.

Yes, it behaves as expected (changing between English and Dutch subtitles with the right-click menu, and also incorrectly listing the non-existent German option).

I've attached a log using this disc if it helps. I entered playback, used Alt+Y to go through all the options (with only English working), then used the DVD's menu to select Dutch which then appeared correctly.

I'll continue to test with some more discs too...
