I'm using an EEE 701 as my media center pc (don't laugh) and gb-pvr does everything but it can't record or play HD tv channels from my DVB tuner without freezing and stuttering. VLC can. Ideally, I would like to add buttons to the tv guide pop up menu to watch and/or record using VLC, but I think the TV guides section is closed source so I can't do it myself. Is that correct? I don't think this would be difficult to implement. There are plenty of examples for how to command VLC to do these tasks, so it would just be a matter of extracting the information from the gb-pvr database and passing it on to VLC. This would be advantageous for all users of gb-pvr because using VLC would mean that no codecs would need to be installed and configured.

I'm sorry, but I wont be doing this in GBPVR (which is no longer being updated) or NPVR. It would be significant effort required, and it wouldnt be compatible with the way GBPVR/NPVR do live tv through the recording service (and various other feature), and isnt the direction I want to take the application.

I've never used it, but possibly the external recorder plugin for GBPVR would do some of what's required.

Thanks for your responses. I have worked around it by building custom tasks to launch VLC playing the HD channels. The external recorder plugin looks very interesting too - thanks for drawing my attention to it.
