I have just spent several hours going through each of the recordings listed under “Ready Recording” and comparing them with the files stored on disk. So far I have been able to delete over 30GB of files recorded over the last six weeks and no longer listed under “Recordings”. I was a bit confused when the “time” in the file name didn’t match the time of the recordings from late March then remembered a comment that the file name used GMT. So was even more confused when from last weekend the recording file names started using local time.

Most recordings are deleted via the client after they are viewed or if I notice a duplicate so have just deleted several recordings from both the client and server and all correctly disappear from the server disk, so cannot immediately repeat the problem. Has anyone else had this happen?

I've had this happen with gbpvr in the past when deleting recordings from a client PC. There was no obvious reasons for some staying and some going.
I used to run vidimport - without importing to find these 'orphan' recordings and delete them. I ended up trying to avoid deletions from PC clients.
I haven't noticed it with NPVR - could it be a permissions thing??

What I'v seen a lot is that folders are not deleted when the .ts file is deleted bcause some comskip files is left, even the extension is listed in Config.xml.

It became aware of this some weeks ago when I noticed several directories on the recordings disk when I was sure I had deleted all those series of recordings. The directories contained several recordings which were easy to delete but the problem comes if a directory contains lots of recordings and the number of “Ready Recordings” doesn’t match the number of files in the directory.

VidImport looks interesting and seems to indicate I still have lots of extra recording files which need deleting. Unfortunately I could not find a way to get it to search a single sub directory as all titles contain spaces, so I redirected the output to a file. I will go through the list tomorrow and delete the rest of the extra files.

I have see a few of these too, but mainly dirs. Most times I see a show icon jpg is all that is left in there and I was wondering if it isn't deleted due to that?

Older versions of NPVR did copy folder.jpg into each recording's folder, and the folder could not be deleted. Sub has fixed this but there could still be remnants of this issue around with older recordings/folders.

I managed to catch the NRecord log entry on the server when a file was NOT deleted from the disk when the recording was deleted from the client. I watched a ½ hour recording and immediately deleted it but it failed to remove the file from the disk.

A few minutes later I successfully deleted another recording. On the unsuccessful deletion it occurred to me that I had tried to delete a file very soon after I stopped viewing the file so perhaps there was a delay unlocking so I watched a few seconds of a recording before deleting it, but that also deleted fully. The logs infer that I was deleting a file within a second of cancelling playing the recording which is impossible especially using a remote control as there is a confirmation action to be made as well.

Attached log file of the three recording deletions.

With 2.2.6, I seem to be getting folder.jpg files created in the recording folder for every recording again.

Sub, is there a config.xml parameter to disable the creation of the folder.jpg files? I seem to be getting them with every recording now, and they keep the folder from being deleted when all of its recordings are deleted.

If you dont put files in C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows, then they wont be copied to folder.jpg.
