I would like to setup NPVR to record programmes which may come along in the future. An example is I would like to record all episodes of “Red Dwarf” but the problem is that the series number is included in the title. At the moment episodes of “Red Dwarf II” and “Red Dwarf VI” are being broadcast so I have setup two recurring recordings. Setting “Match start of title” does not appear to catch both series from just one recurring recording entry. At the moment I try to remember do a search every week to see if a different series being broadcast so I can record it. Is there any way to setup NPVR to record “Red Dwarf *” on a particular channel? NEWA has a manual recurring option but that is based on a specified time slot only not a programme title.

Why do you want to set up a Manual Recurring Recording?

Set up a Saved Search for "Red Dwarf" (without the quotes) in NEWA - don't specify any times, dates or channels. Tick the Include in daily autorecord check box.

Download & install the Auto-Search Command Line Interface. Set up a Windows Scheduled Task to run the CLI after your EPG update.

You'll soon be snowed under with episodes of Red Dwarf (any series).Big Grin

I use the advanced option in Manual Recordings -> title like 'Red Dwarf%'
Should work for you too Wink

Thanks for the suggestions

ACTCMS - I will look into this method tomorrow.

RedDwarf - Advanced Option Manuel Recordings. Do you mean "Advanced Rules". If so there does not seem to be any way to blank the date or start and stop times in manuel recordings.

Yes I mean Advanced Rules, when you type something in there it does not care about date or start/stop times, everything is supposed to be put in Advanced Rules, and when you only type what I suggested it will record all shows beginning with the phrase in like (don't forget the % sign at the end) on all channels at all times.

YES!! Thanks RedDwarf it works - after several false starts. The first failure was because "Recording Type" wasn’t set to something recurring. The second problem I found in the log when I forced an EPG update and saw it was looking in the wrong channel so changed it to “Any Channel”. However I will probably change it to the single channel as it finds duplicates on the +1 channel.

Thanks again RedDwarf. I was rather expecting some input from you given what I was trying to record!
