I'm not in a position to try this at the moment, but can I ask a general question regarding it's architecture?

Is it server based and able to use clients like NMT/MVP/PC ? or installed on each client separately ?
If not can NPVR clients use a shared network database rather than one on each ?

Just trying to picture how I will be using it when things get back to normal at home.

It's not server based, it uses a sqlite database like NPVR. You could use the database shared from a remote PC client but you would need to not use local drive letters when you scan on the host PC.

Where my head is at:
I am currently messing around with 7MC, J River and even itunes to optimise my music requirements for my main stereo, 2 ipods, an mp3 player and a couple of android phones (streaming and remote control using gmote). So I am still experimenting atm and certainly don;t have a clearly defined or rigid idea in my head as to what I need from a music app.

I understand I am trying to add an Android into the MB mix and there are several considerations.

Easily select a genre and then browse genres by artist and then album. (I am generally more likely to want to listen to a style of music that a certain artist or album)
Regarding random play, I would like (love) the ability to have the application/jukebox randomly play a selected genre or artist within a genre (I have 56 Miles Davis albums) so I might want to just "listen to some Miles"

To play the genre randomly select the genre Option go back to the menu scroll and select Random.

To play Miles randomly I wouldn't bother with a genre I would just enter 6444555 and OK on the left coumn. I am working on predictive text to make it easier to find Miles

Whilst certainly a neat idea, I am not *yet* convinced on the merits of ordering genres based on quantity. I *may* prefer to stick to alphabetic (could this be configurable?)

In retrospect it may not have been logical to have genre in quantity order, was just that a lot of poorly tagged files got in the way of my prime favourites.

So I think before I provide any more feedback , I need to go an play some more with collections (to ape genres perhaps) but....

I personally don't think that is a good idea. I see collections as higher level then genre.

When I go into options, collections has the tag @optionvalue and when I right arrow I get

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.

Ok thanks there may be an issue with no collections other than system.

Yeah that was part of the reason I just made a new database. I now have my normal albums & compilations split apart in two different collections. I have defaulted it to have "normal albums" as the startup collection (many less artists by far to sort through) then if I want compilation I select that collection from the options menu & if I want to see all albums/artists I just select "system" from options.

It seems on the PCH after selecting Random playlist (red button) it pops-up, music starts playing then I am never able to MB4 to go back to a non playlist screen....is that supposed to happen?

When the plugin is reactivated it goes to the screen you were on but you should be able to use the Menu to select another screen. Alternatively, if you want hot key support on the NMT remote Yellow will toggle the active library screen and jukebox and Green should cycle through Artist/Album/Playlist.

Ok, are your "missing" 261 albums registered to their artist correctly?

Yes...to the best of my knowledge they are registered correctly.....

Ok I think showing all albums, (as illogical as I find this) will be relatively easy to change, I just have to find a way to toggle it. I can't ever remember seeing a physical record/CD collection sorted like this except for compilations that didn't belong by artist.

I appreciate the comment that there are a lot of artist in compilations and I will see if I can filter artists who only appear in compilations, that might be a tad tougher.

Yea....maybe I am just strange..... When in artist mode I have 2884....so if I want to get to the Grateful Dead I have many, many pages to go through (using PCH)....so then when I switch to compilation mode I get 110 compilations each one containing a mixed bag of artists....which is fine. So I am stuck without a way to easily get to music I know I want to play. I am going to try Jaggy's suggestion of splitting out the compilations and other music and see if that works for me.

I do have the All Albums mode working and am mostly done removing the compilation artist, but I don't think the goal is reducing scrolling. To get to grateful dead quickly try 4777 and then 2 and 8 if you have a huge library.

Assuming you installed the patches mentioned on page one of this thread and one the wiki, could you send logs?

Patches.... :o I'll give those two items a go first......need to wait till 11 since i have a recording running now and I need to stop the service to make the update.

Not seeing a patch on the wiki.....where is that one?
