Unable to scan channels with HDHomeRun

This is a fresh install with the HDHomeRun software installed. I am able to view channels with the HDHR and VLC. When I click "Show Status" from the NPVR tray icon, I see the 2 tunes under devices. In the HDHR setup, I've set the application to "Other QAM/ATSC" and all firewall services are disabled. When I attempt to scan channels, the screen is blank and never advances. It seems like it's waiting for something.

The system is running Server 2008 Standard 32-bit with Desktop Experience installed.

I am not sure that Win 2008 server standard includes the required BDA support, I read recently a fix for R2 http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post412163 but I don't know about standard.

Note VLC streams without BDA support.

I remember this now. I had GBPVR installed on Server 2008 a while back, but replaced the hardware. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the files and don't have a 32-bit version of Vista. I'll have to track down a system running 32-bit Vista.

I dunno if this helps or not, but I run a hdhomerun as well. I have ran into the channel scan problem as well. If you go into the Hdhomerun setup, there is a menu for which program you run, if you have it set to GBPVR it will not scan, but switching it to media portal, presto the channels scan in the NPVR settings menu.

that's not hakras' problem. server 2008 doesn't have the necessary media components installed, since it's a server not a desktop OS. however as Server 2008 is essentially Vista in server form, the Vista media components can be installed. the link I provided has instructions and an installation script, but requires you have the needed Vista files.

your advice is sound however: NPVR won't be able to scan an HDHomerun with the app set to GB-PVR (I'm not sure anyone knows exactly why that's the case), though I think the usual answer around here has been to set the application to "Other - ATSC/QAM".

edit: I have just now added a note to the npvr tech support sticky about this.

So I finally got my hands on a Vista 32-bit OS and pulled the files I needed. I copied them over, registered the DLLs, and rebooted. I am back in business. Thank you for your help.
