I have used Sage and we all know about that little situation that arose a couple of weeks ago. I have several shares on it that hold TV shows. These play fine under NPVR as server or client on my other computers, but my problem is that, even though the shares have no passwords and allow deletions, NPVR can't "see" them unless I map them as network drives on my client machine.

I can only "browse" my network, and without going down that nasty road of the master browser, etc. (Which actually is my Sage server), suffice it to say that it is, of course, the only CPU that does not show up.

Is there a way to manually configure NPVR to accept a set of pathways, for examples, \\server\g, \\server\h, etc ? I can map \\server\g as a network drive and access and play the files, but I would rather not do that if I do not have to.

You could select a local directory and then carefully edit the config.xml located in C:\Users\Public\NPVR and change the local path to your server share.

I just tried that and it worked like a charm for me.

Personally, I drive map my shares. I like knowing that M: is my media drive. That's just me. Good luck!

That makes sense, but how would I do that with multiple shares ? I have about 6TB on 5 drive letters.

I see the config file and such. This is pretty new to me coming from Sage. Thanks in advance for any help.

Npvr should be able to handle shortcuts, so you could gather shortcuts to all your shares in one directory I guess.

I only tried it on a virtual machine that I have NPVR on for testing things, and I couldn't get Videos to see shortcuts. I didn't try very hard tho...

To answer Savage1701, at least with my suggestion for editing the config.xml...

If you've set one share already, the easiest thing is to copy/paste that line as many times as you need it and replace the path for each of your shares and give it a unique name.

You might want to post in the Wishlist forum for NPVR to support server paths.

By far, the super easiest thing is the drive map your shares. I know you're not keen on that, but it might be the path of least resistance to get going.

You're on the right track, shortcuts don't make it easier and drive letters are so MS-DOS

If you can't find your share via the config browser I'd try adding lines like this to the VideoLibrary section (with your IP) for each each share, assuming you have no security.

Code:
<Directory name="Sage C:">\\192.168.1.100\C$</Directory>
      <Directory name="Sage D:">\\192.168.1.100\D$</Directory>

Thanks to all for the help.

The code looks fine for adding shares. Since my server has a static IP and no security on the shares (its sandboxed) that could be easy.

As long as something works, I'm all good with it.

Thank you again.
