Request: Possibility to switch Audio Renderer on the fly

As an aside; is the process for resuming a DVD different? I haven't actually tried it yet, but I've seen references to bookmarks in the log files, and what with menus and so on, I could imagine it being different.

Sorry, DVDs are a bit different and there is no API around resuming these at the moment. I cant resume to a certain spot, and it does involve restoring bookmarks etc, but there is no public API around this.

Another update...it's not very elegant, but I think I might be onto something with System.Windows.Forms.SendKeys.Send("{ESC}")

One snag I found today was with AC3 recordings and the telly not coping with AC3 over HDMI. I assume it's not possible for me to configure the PC/filters to convert for the HDMI renderer but leave well alone for the SPDIF? Works perfectly for other recordings/vidoes though

I'm not quite sure what you mean? If you send AC3 via HDMI to your TV you get no sound?

Depending on which filters you use, you might be able to change their settings via command-line regedit calls or something. If so, it would be easy enough for me to have the plugin run a batch file related to the renderer name when it's activated, eg Default.bat or HDMI.bat...

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. The TV plays mpeg2 audio (or pcm or whatever it gets sent with SD channels) but cant play AC3. I've told the audio decoder to pass through AC3 and DTS for the spdif/amp, but the telly cant handle these. I assume it's not possible to tell the decoder what to depending on the renderer as it has no way of knowing which it is...

No it doesn't. But this plugin does.

I don't know about other decoders, but AC3filter is very easy to control via registry tweaks that can be called from the command line. If I add support for calling batch files with names matching the renderer name being switched to, then you can put whatever you need into them to ensure, for example, only downmixed stereo is ever sent to the TV via HDMI, but AC3 passthrough is used with SPDIF to the amp.

As an example, if you set up AC3filter for AC3 audio, then you could just export those settings from the registry into ac3.reg. To apply them again at a later date (ie, when the plugin is changing renderer), then it's just:

Which could be placed inside of /Plugins/AudioAdjust/<your_spdif_renderer_name>.bat

Here's another small update that adds automatic resumption of Live TV and media files (but not DVDs) when you toggle the audio renderer.

I've got a few more things to tidy up over the next couple of days, and then I'll try to turn it into a proper release with a setting screen, wiki location, and so on.

imilne, please forgive me the late feedback! I just hadn't time to test your new release.

What shall i say? I am very, very greatful! The automatic resumption of media files works like a charme! Even if i switch from one to another and back and over again. Very stable and reliable. It resumes where it should.

Finally you have raised the worth of 3(!) machines at my home. All of them now can switch on the fly without any problems from one renderer to another. Even my daughter (6 yrs old) is now able to switch from one renderer to another. So simple, so good. It's impressive, that such a small "plugin" can make so much better.
