I have a feeling that I'm missing something obvious, but I cannot get NPVR to record audio via optical..only AAC via RCA.

I have configured via ArcSoft Showbiz and it retains the optical settings...and allows recording of AC3 via optical...but the settings don't seem to be used by NPVR. Am I missing something? I have searched the forums and see some entries about AC3 playback...but not about recording (of course I may have missed it)

Thanks,
Bill

Try using the attached patch, and setting the following in the <HDPVR> section of config.xml: <ForceSPDIF>false</ForceSPDIF>

I'll try adding a UI setting for it in the next release. Couldnt do this easily in a patch.

sub,

Thanks for looking into this. Patch and setting didn't make a difference, still recorded AAC Stereo instead of AC3 DD stream. (tried HBO...verified the source audio channels via ArcSoft.) Didn't see any errors in the logs. NRecord is attached

Thanks,
Bill

Can you zip and attach your config.xml so I can check it's in the correct spot.

Sorry, you needed to set <ForceSPDIF>true</ForceSPDIF>, not 'false'.

No difference...NRecord attached.
(Different channel...verified audio stream via ArcSoft). Ended and restarted service after changing to 'true'.

Could there be another recent patch that is required for this to work? Maybe I am missing a file that this works with...

Give this one a go. If it doesnt help, post the logs again. I've added more logging.

That one seemed to have used SPDIF! (Looking at the codec info on VLC shows 2 tracks, but only one selectable. Track 1 is the AAC Stereo Track. Track 2 is the AC3 DD track. Plays fine (with only one DD track on my PCH))

As always...that you so much for looking into this!

Here is the record log.

I've never been able to get the Colossus' Toslink to work in NPVR either. Records off the Toslink fine in the two Hauppauge supplied apps. There was another thread about it here a few months ago now. I was the only one who chimed in when another user had the same problem. I assumed it was a codec problem we were facing since I am also experiencing crashing problems in Live TV as well. I'm using Windows 7 64. If it'll help, I can provide my logs in a few days.
