I have Verizon FIOS STB that produces 1080p connected to Colossus 2 via HDMI. If I record a .ts with Hauppauge Capture, Mediainfo shows that the .TS file is "Progressive". If I record same thing with NPVR, Mediainfo shows that the .TS file is "Interlaced". I observed there is no 1080p "Mode" in the current config file. Is is possible to have NPVR record in 1080P? Am I missing something?

The Colossus 2 can't record 1080p60. I don't think there are any channels broadcast in the US using that format though - they tend to be either 720p or 1080i.

Sub,

I think the box is "upscaling". Attached is a Mediainfo for a clip I made with Hauppauge Capture. It is not 60FPS, but it appears to me to be progressive at 30FPS. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Walt

When I read on the Hauppauge site about this it seems it only captures 30fps even with 60fps output. I figure fixed 720p 60fps would look better.

Thinking back, I seem to remember that 1080p60 input was converted to 1080p30 by the HDPVR2/Colossus2

In Hauppauge Capture, in the advanced settings, what settings do you have in the Video Scaler page?

Haven't touched anything there. Brand new system and new installs. Long, sad story, but I've been using NPVR for years to capture stuff, then I compress it down to MP4. I have an Nvidia GPU based card and try to use that to do the conversion, but CUDA does not like interlaced video. I'm using DVDFab (probably a mistake in itself) and I have to check "Deinterlace" in order to use the .TS files from NPVR. I've done this is the past with more or less success. With the latest NVIDIA drivers and latest DVDFab, it's fast as hell converting, but the sound track drifts out of sync making the MP4 pretty useless. I was thinking maybe if I didn't have to "Deinterlace", it may work better, that's all. I'm basically guessing. I've complained to DVDFab support and we'll see where that goes.
The cable box is, in fact, putting out 1080p 60. I verified this on my Sony HDTV. I agree with you that this is likely not "on the wire", but is being done by the Verizon FIOS box. I was a bit surprised that Hauppauge Capture created a "progrssive" scan type file.
Sorry for the ramble. Thought it may help to know what I'm up to. I would REALLY like to use the CUDA...it's so damn fast. 90 minute movie to MP4 in 5 minutes. Currently running I7 9700K CPU which is no slouch but cannot compete with the GPU.

It's slowly coming back to me. BTW, I'm also the author of Hauppauge Capture.

Without any of those advanced setting set, you should get the same behaviour in NextPVR. ie, if the video source is 720p60, you'll get a 720p60 transport stream. If the video source is 1080i30, you'll get a 1080i30 transport stream. If the video source is a 1080p60, you'll get a 1080p30 transport stream.

There shouldn't be any reason you'd get a different result in NextPVR. Are you sure you tried the same channel? You might find some of the channel behave differently.

Yeah, I was careful to do that. The capture from NPVR was fine, it's just not progressive. If there's anything I should change in NPVR, I can't find it. I have it scheduled to record same movie, same channel again just to be sure. The only change I made to config was to change the SD to match the others. I have always done that as my box never actually send out SD video.

(I hope you get paid better for Hauppauge Capture! Nice software, BTW)

For comparison's sake, can you try a recording of the same channel in both Hauppauge Capture and NextPVR, then post the mediainfo output?

No problem, Sub. Will do. Do you want the same movie or just the same channel?
