Somehow I started recording a live TV show. Now how do I stop recording? Nothing seems to stop it. Thank you.

I can't even get into Recordings now. This program is not very user-friendly. I try to update the EPG and it crashes. I try to view LiveTV and get a blank screen. I get F1 for the TV-Guide and get no response.

I have re-booted and I still can't get LiveTV. The program just sits there with a black screen (neither F1, F2, or the F8 keys do anything). I have tried everything I can think of. It's very late and I need to go to bed. Very disappointing. I guess I'll do another scan while I am in the shower.

Complaining doesn't let us help you. The normal and best way to get help is to compress the files in your NPVR logs folder and attach them to a message.

First of all; Did you install all the required packages before attempting to install nPVR? What windows are you running?

first you need to understand that this program is very Do It Yourself by design (or perhaps by neccesity, depending on how you look at it). It's meant to be used around the world on a huge variety of TV systems, by users who want to just watch TV on their desktop while doing other things and on dedicated Home Theater PC's to run pretty much the entire entertainment of the home. It accomplishes this by leaving a lot of the setup choices up to you - there's no one right way to configure this software, no hold-you-by-the-hand setup wizard. You can't install it then just click LiveTV and expect it to work right off.

Because this is free software written primarily by one guy (sub), it does not and can not include media decoders. You must have the needed decoders installed on your system.

The wiki documentation is a bit sparse because NextPVR is a completely new program first released in very beta form just a year ago. No one really likes doing documentation, but it's getting there.

Please look at the sticky thread linked in my signature. The second post should provide you some getting started help; read it carefully - I packed as much as I could in the 10,000 character length limit.

I am running XP, SP3. I installed the main package (v2.1.5) and the recent patch (NPVR 2.1.5 Patches R1). I have no idea what else there might be to install. I would think everything regarding installation would be found in one place. My screen did say that DirectX runtime was not found and that software rendering would be used - I will redo DirectX Runtime Web Installer. I don't know why this is so since I have DirectX 9 installed. I see there is a note for XP users that mentions VMR instead of EVR, which I may not fully understand. I apparently need to use VMR9 since I have XP. Okay. Thank you for asking questions that help me steer in the right direction.

There is several of these messages in your log files. I think you have some firewall software in your machine that is getting in the way of communication between NextPVR.exe and NRecord.exe. ie, it is unable to ask the recording service to start the device etc.
