So now I've got the EGreat M34A working well with NPVR. Any media stored locally on the server such as recordings and videos is visible and playable through NPVR on the EGreat. But I've also got mapped drives and //otherserver/media folders setup through the NPVR server configuration screen for things such as MP3s and Pictures. These I have no problems accessing using the server, but through NPVR on the EGreat... no luck. I'm sure there's some simple configuration setting or.xml file I need to edit somewhere, but I don't know what. Any help appreciated.
Regards,
Hasso

Clients: EGreat M34A with MVPMCX2; HDX1000 with MVPMCX2 and internal 2TB SATA Seagate Green HD.[/SIZE]

The NMT server process needs different permissions than the NPVR client on the server. Mapped drive letter won't work, and the \\servername\sharename won't work because the master browser isn't running for local system. You might be okay with \\IP\sharename notation, otherwise you either have to change to NPVR Recording service to run as a "normal" user or use ShareHelper2

Thanks. My problem was that I had not setup the share on the linux server to be available for read access by "nobody". Once I did that, and setup the network share on the nPVR server (through the nPVR configuration settings), the NMT nPVR client works no problems.

Good to hear. I usually think of changing permissions on the server but the permissions have to be on the shares too.

Martin,
Good work on mvpmcx2. Works great, and a lot less hassle to setup (and cheaper, quieter, smaller with an NMT) than a PC client. Only reason I had the PC client was due to lack of HE-AAC supprt on the NMT, but since that's supported by mvpmcx2 (and also works like a charm), it's "good-bye" to the PC in the bedroom.
Regards,
Hasso

Hmm, cheap, quiet, smaller, and working great. I guess I can't argue with that. Glad you like the HE-AAC it took a lot more research than I expected, but I am pleased with the end result.

Sometimes I think you underestimate yourself Martin!? You can't argue with that. Cheap, quiet, smaller... I just don't understand why more people have not got the whole extender thing yet? Well apart from the Sage users who know how great extenders work....

I always forget to just thank you Martin for all you do with extenders to NextPVR.

(and I hope that wasn't off topic Big Grin )

cheers

I'll add my thanks to the list as well Martin, especially now that HE-AAC on DVB-T is coming out way in a week or two.

I must admit at times I wonder why anyone at all puts up with the hassle of messing around with renderers and decoders when it is so easy to just use an NMT.

The problem with the NMT is you can't just go to the store and buy one. Believe me, I'd have one by now if they had them at Fry's. Ordering a refurb unit from china and waiting a few weeks is a level of commitment I've not been willing to make - this sort of thing is a whim purchase for me. Also, until Martin's Universe plugin, there was no way to get Hulu and NetFlix on an NMT, but even now that still requires a PlayOn subscription and then you have to make do with PlayOn's limitations (have to have it running on a PC, no seeking, inconsistent resume support, etc.)

The perfect NPVR extender would:

1) be available at retail stores like Fry's, as well as the common online vendors like NewEgg
2) cost $100 or less
3) have native streaming support including netflix & hulu

I actually picked up a nice Samsung Blu-Ray player at Fry's a week or so ago for a mere $67. At that price, and knowing I could just return it, it was an easy whim purchase. I didn't buy it to play blu-rays though (I have only one, from a DVD/BluRay combo), I bought it for media streaming. It does netflix & huluplus (but not regular hulu), among others, and plays the .ts recordings from NPVR just fine. So far the only real problem with it is the provided Samsung Allshare DLNA server software doesn't automatically refresh the media list, so I have to manually refresh it to get it to see new recordings which is a pain. I just need a better DLNA server (I guess Windows Media Player is a DLNA server also? maybe I need to set that up...).

That all said, I may yet pull the trigger and get an NMT anyway. Obviously it works, so I'd have no reason to send it back. PlayOn may not be perfect, but it does offer quite a bit of content, and has the advantage of streaming regular Hulu instead of HuluPlus which costs more than a PlayOn subscription right there.

That's the main difference, many people think of it as a serious client and not a toy or whim purchase. I have two "real" Netflix boxes, my next TV will no doubt have it built-in too so for me the value in the NMT is solely as a NPVR client.
