imilne Wrote:Another problem with it is if it kept recording then it would stop the PC going into standby. I have a short timeout (5 minutes), on the assumption if you've stopped watching TV and aren't doing anything else then it's time for the PC to go nighty-night.
Presumably if sub were to implement this feature (doesn't seem too likely anyway), it would probably have a configurable 'over-record' time including 0 minutes which would effectively disable it. I do understand there are scenarios and usage models where continuing to buffer livetv for a long time might not be the best fit. I think a lot of the benefit of it would come with even a 5-minute 'over-record' time (though I'd personally want at least 30), yet 5 minutes would not unreasonably delay sleep.

Yeah, it's looking unlikely, but chucking ideas around doesn't hurt. What you've said makes sense to me.

Why can't there be a way to turn the temporary (running) file that is currently always being saved into a permanent file, which would then be available for later viewing?
I can easily delete files and this would cover my butt when I make a mistake.
