Can we lock and hide this thread? I don't think it is in the spirit of the way this board operates....

I understand frustration and it is coming through loud and clear from both sides, the vets and the newbies, but I don't think this is really healthy for any of us.

Does anyone remember Tipstir???

I'm sorry, but I don't remember the details with regard to the Wiki authorship. Either I couldn't "get in" to the Wiki or I did edit it and it wasn't accepted or had some other problem with it - I'm afraid I just don't recall - it has been too long now. I apologize for my memory. People never like to hear anything bad about their "babies", yet constructive criticism helps make things better (if it considered and applied where needed). I know most people don't like the process of constructive criticism. I am simply speaking the truth as I understand it. Nothing more, nothing less.

In my own work and on my own website, I do everything for free. All my software is free and I have been doing it since 1994. So I understand "free". And if people give me feedback, I consider it and try to make my stuff better. It isn't personal in the long run, even though I sometimes get riled up just like you. But then I have to put my ego aside and try to be objective. Not easy for any of us to do.

We do what we do because of our love for it. You love NPVR. I understand that. But other people have their passions. No one can do everything. If a 3rd party makes suggestions about NPVR, then it is a fact of life that the people who love NPVR most will be willing to do the most work. I "like" NPVR, but I do not love it like I do my own free stuff. Sorry. If I could recall what I did with the Wiki, I would tell you - but I honestly don't remember anything at all. I know I tried to do something, but after that, I don't know.

I am sorry I upset you. I was trying to comfort someone whose feelings I understand because I went through what he went through. I cannot pretend that my frustrations were not real. I tried to pass along my experiences on the Forum in order to be helpful. Anyone is free to ignore my suggestions as given or do something with them, either on the Wiki or elsewhere.

I understand your feelings, but in my experience, growth comes from wrestling with an issue, not by burying it. But it's not my Forum, so it's not my call.

The fact that it hasn't indicates there is an opportunity here, it seems to me.

No worries at all.

We (I believe I would speak for wiki admin here) do not mind criticism, for good or bad. If I came across that way it was not intended. I simply wondered why you asked for wiki access some time ago, did not do anything about it, then proceeded to slag it off on this thread. It is a wiki! It is not my baby, nor anyone elses. That is the purpose of it. I have no particular protective custody of it, nor do I care what people do with it to make it better. But what riles me is people that attack it but have no constructive input to make it better Big Grin

In revieiwing my history with the Wiki, it appears one of my problems with the Wiki is that it won't recognize my name and password. So perhaps THAT is why I never entered it to make positive changes in its content.

Martin

Thanks Martin, I would suggest if this has all become about the wiki then perhaps a_edwall could now post

here

about this issue (which is the documentation for NextPVR thread)

I can understand the frustration that may be for new users, I was one once, (and often my posts get mis-translated!) but it is always better to ask first before jumping in? May be a PM was not understood?

cheers

steeb
