I like the promise of what NextPVR seems to offer. Unfortunately, I am having issues getting it going. I can't get Live TV to connect. I keep getting the error "Unable to communicate with recording service."

The firewall appears to be setup correctly, nothing else seems to be running on the port, but yet the Recording Service seems to not be running. Restarting the service goes through without a visible error and it shows started, but it still doesn't work. The log file seems to indicate an error and the process isn't running? I've even tried running NRecord.exe manually and Live TV still won't connect.

Any ideas what I need to tweak? I first installed the program yesterday and cleared everything out and tried installing again today. I first got an error during the initial installation. Log files are attached along with netstat partial output and a screenshot of an installation error (shown during the initial install and the reinstall). The computer is running Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit).

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

That nrecord.log looks like it has started. Can you see it listed in the task list? If not, is there an event in the Event Viewer saying it failed to start, or crashed or something?

NRecord.exe is showing in the Windows Task Manager. (It shows appropriately that it was started by SYSTEM). I even tried to end the process and restart the NPVR Recording Service. The process again showed up in Task Manager, but it still doesn't appear in the list when I do a netstat -b -n and it still isn't working. The application log clearly shows that the service started successfully and shows no additional errors. The only error was in the system log when I ended the process manually before I restarted it.

Still stumped. I appreciate the help.

It's sounding like you might have firewall/antivirus type software that is getting in the way of network communication used between the frontend and backend.

There are already exceptions for the NextPVR programs in the firewall, but I went ahead and created two more for the TCP ports 7969 and 8968. After restarting NextPVR, it still isn't working. The only antivirus software on this PC is Windows Security Essentials and it isn't showing any detections in its logs.
