sub,
I don't know if you have been following the thread where we have been testing Martin's network recorder for the DCR-2650. We now have it working on my system pretty well. I can now schedule recording a copy-once flagged program using npvr and it will record it and leave a nice .wtv file in the directory. Now all I would like to be able to do is to select this show from either the recording screen or from videos, and have it play. Obviously it won't be able to play natively in npvr. Is it possible for you to set it up so it plays back all .wtv files using WMC? ie selecting the file to play would start WMC and play the file? Selecting a wtv file in file manager now does exactly this. Could this be done through npvr?

I know this is less than ideal solution, but the files can only be played back in WMC. A user could configure all copy-once flagged channels to use networkrecorder and all non-flagged channels to use the native DCR interface. All non-flagged would be .ts and all flagged would be .wtv.

If you don't want to do this in your regular interface (which I understand), could it be done in a plugin ("Recordings X")

Thanks for the consideration

May I ask a possible dumb question about the DCR-2650? I see on the Hauppauge web site under the listed 3rd party apps that NPVR is listed. Is it natively supported or are they talking about the Network Recorder option? I'm just curious.
I see it also shows SageDCT as an option but doesn't point out 'copy freely only' like it does for WinTV 7 and NPVR. I'm sure it's the same.

It is natively supported. You need some silicondust software also at the moment, but npvr handles the heavy lifting. This records .ts files and if it is protected, the files will not play. But for non protected content, it works just like any other tuner (at least much like one) to a standard user. You only need to use networkrecorder to end up with a wtv file that will play with WMC. SageDTC will have the same problem with the copy-once issue.

Its natively supported. It'll work with any copy-freely channel.

As you say - it's the same. It also only supports copy-freely.

Actually in WMC but only on the PC it was recorded on. If you upgrade to a new server or try from a client (other than xbox360) you wanted by able to play them.

If they play nicely with ShellExectute() and sub doesn't have time to try I can get you a prototype pretty quickly.

SageDCT tunes/records devices like the Ceton, Hauppauge, HDHR Prime using the DRI interface. The native support in NPVR uses a different mechanism to record from the Hauppauge and HDHR. Just to make things more confusing this thread is about SageMCTuner, which connects to any Windows MC tuner, creating a wtv and a ts file. Primarily for now this allows ATI Cablecard recording and also recording of non-copy freely recordings for MC use from NPVR

If I haven't confused things enough wait until whurlston's adds more choices.

It works great! When I close out WMC after viewing, I get a black screen on npvr until I click or scroll, then the gui comes right back up.

Any possibilities for live tv? Rolleyes The more I think about this, the more difficult it gets. If all I wanted was a recording system, then we would be good now. But if I want to replace the STB, then I also need live tv. It might be that we end up using WMC for live tv (we don't watch tv live too much anyway).

I HATE DRM!!! This has the potential to be such a cool thing. Actually, it is pretty cool now, it just could be even better.

Thanks for your quick work. I need to play with it for a while now.
