LNB advice?

Complicating things further, have you looked into the possibilities of two LNB's bolted to the same dish. I'm sure this was common with the old Astra and Eutelsat. This would give simultaneous use.

I did entertain this thought but it looks like that means a new & bigger dish, I really wanted to keep my BSkyB ones as they are small and don't look too obvious Don't really want to draw the attention of the planning officers

Yes good point, bolt and braces I don't really want to have to go crawling around the roof and end up a la Rod Hull.

A bit more digging about leads me to think that the DisEqc is to control a switch only and not a motor? Can anyone confirm?

If this is the case is there a way to drive a DisEqc motor with NextPVR?

Looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DiSEqC i think Diseqc 1.2 and 2.2 handle motors as well ??

It is only for a diseqc switch. Niether NextPVR or GBPVR can drive a motor.

Dear all,

following on I have decided to go for something like these

multiconnect LNB's on one dish.

One LNB will be probably be the quad I currently have pointed @ Astra 2 & Eurobird 1 as I currently have.

then I am thinking of getting a switch like this:

and then I use NextPVR's ability to switch via DiSEqC with 1 x dedicated DVB-S card for the other LNB's. (I guess it doesn't have to be a dedicated card, it could switch from the quad to the other LNB's too I guess but I think I like the idea of having a dedicated card for the other, not used as often Satellites.)

Does that sound OK so far, have I missed something? :eek:

For the other Satellites I so far think I am going to point 1 LNB @ Astra 1 (19.0E) and another @ Hotbird (13.0E), that potentially leaves me 1 more Satellite I could point at with another LNB.

Any ideas of another Satellite up there that may be worth having a look at?!

yes looks like a good solution. It seems that you can get a multiconnect that fits 4 LNB's, and a 3 DiSEqC switch and of course NextPVR can switch 4 connections, A, B, C & D.

The quad would just be pointing @ 28.2E and not connected to the switch, just 4 straight Coax tails out. I would plan on just having the one switch to work the Sats @ 19.0E and 13.0E. But with room for 1 more LNB and room for another connector on the switch I just wondered if there was another Satellite out there worth having an LNB pointing at. Otherwise seems like the 3 x LNB solution would be fine!

Sorry, can't help with satellite suggestions that you haven't already covered.
All my old messing around was with analogue and big dish and it seemed that there was something interesting everywhere you pointed at least from 27W to 20-odd east. (ah, the good old days).
