My Avermedia M150 card seems to be going out, so I am looking for a replacement. IMHO, it makes better recordings than a Theatre 500 based card I tried and sent back. (I don't want to go HD as my PC can't handle it and I don't have digital cable.)

I am looking at the Avermedia AverTV Purity 3D MCE 250 card and I see it in the direct.ini file (though it is not on the wiki page for capture cards). Anyone have experience with this card? It would be helpful if folks could record their feelings about their cards in the Wiki table, but I am not really sure how to do that without creating a database to collect them and average out ratings.. a lot of work.

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...reCardList

The obvious model, the Hauppauge PVR 150, showed up in Google scans with complaints about installation and VERY loud sound. Was that fixed in the PVR 150 MCE?

Suggestions appreciated....

I've had very good results with the 150 for the last year, year and a half. I had troubles at first due the infamous timeline issues, but they finally got that sorted out and it's been very reliable. For analog SD, I'd definitely consider another one, or probably the two-tuner PVR-500.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that was the most commonly used card here.

if you're going to get one why not 2. I have 2 pvr-500mce's, for a total of 4 tuners, and they work great. I also have a blackbird, 150mce and pvr 250. All hauppaugge.

Personally. I'm keeping an eye on Cablecard tuners, and the associated DRM, to decide wether I go HD over the Air or Digital Cable, QAM, next.

Thanks
Mark.

I have two Haup PVR-150s in my setup. One is the MCE version with FM and the other without. I've had them for quite a while and have been very satisfied with their performance. I'm using one with S-video from my Dish Network's STB (using a USB-UIRT for channel changing) and the other connected to an antenna in the attic. So many people are using these cards that if you have an issue finding solutions should be much easier than other brands of cards.
MY PVR:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Hardware: Silverstone LC13-E, Athlon II 250, Asrock 785GMH, 2GB Corsair RAM, 250GB WD HDD, 1TB WD Black, Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE tuner (s-video to Dish STB), HDHomeRun (ATSC x2), MCE2004 for Rx, USB-UIRT for Tx, Sony VL600 Remote, 36" Sony Wega HD CRT on DVI to embedded ATI HD4200.

I am also looking to add another dual tuner card to my setup to give me 5 tuners.
What about the "Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 ATSC/NTSC Hybrid Video Recorder/ TV Tuner" anyone have luck with it? I would like to do HD down the road but right now I’d like to know if I could just use it as 2 analog tuners for now?

Reading the Hauppauge page, it sounds like it is analog or digital, but not at the same time and not switchable to two analog tuners.

Concerning ATSC, I looked at our OTA channels via Zap2It in Atlanta and I only saw a few HD shows. So it seems like we are quite a ways off from getting lots of HD content. I guess if you are a major sports or prime-time show fan, then an ATSC card HD could be worth it.

Hmm... how would GBPVR tell the WinTV-HVR-1600 which antennae to record from? I guess it would have to show up in the system as 'two cards'?

GB-PVR chooses which of the two capture sources to used based on its normal rules (depends on order of capture sources in config app).

This is a mystery to me too. I rebuilt my PVR yesterday onto new hardware and just plopped in both of my PVR-150 cards. One uses s-video in and the other the antenna. Miraculously, the one i setup as capture device #1 for s-video as the correct one. Big Grin
