A way to load EPG quicker on pc clients

The first EPG load on a PC client is quite slow (2 weeks 40 channels), I was wondering if there is a quicker way of doing it? Perhaps the client could use a local EPG lisitings either a local to the client xml grab or a batch file that runs on boot up to copy over the EPG to the client machine?

Or maybe an option to only pull down the first x days of EPG on a client?

How slow is slow? I have a 7 day EPG, but for twice the number of channels and it appears instantly on my laptop client (wireless g).

I have 237 channels and it is not dramatically slower even on the CPU challenged ION. Maybe your client/network is just slow.

Thinking about it you might be right about the network speeds, the client is a new ZBOX AD02 and the wireless N reception is pitiful, I could not get any signal at all in its location despite my phone, laptop, wifi radio and ipod touch all giving ok performance in the same place.

In desperation to get up and running I bought a homeplug starter kit, and I have not yet done any kind of speed test, reading reviews (2 days after buying -idiot) I see alot of them are only giving 20 to 30Mbit speeds under test conditions. I'll do a file transfer tonight and see what I'm getting.

I may have to look at moving my wireless router, or putting some high gain antennas on it, or a repeater somewhere to get good N coverage.

Having said that I remember my old home office machine that was wired gigabit to the server still had a noticeable delay...no where near as long as this new setup but noticeable.

My 738 channel EPG loads pretty much instantly on gigabit LAN.

Is MOAC an option for you? Aside from using cat 5/6 they seem to work the best and are capable of streaming BD w/o issues.

Just done a file transfer from server to client, it looks like it's maxing out at around 24Mb/s.

I rekon I could drop a cat5 down to the room next door for an N repeater, but dont really want the grief.

My server is also in another room next door, if I chucked a wifi card in it could I get it to act as an access point/repeater?

I'm guessing lovemyram4x4 meant MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance). Basically, you use existing coax network for your lan. Buy a used Actiontec MI424WR for where you have your router & a nearby cable drop. Then, get another one for each other location you have a cable outlet & want ethernet or wireless. If you already have Verizon FIOS, they supplied your first one. You should be able to find them on ebay for under $25. If you need more info, post here or find the previous post that somebody else did that convinced me to start using it. There are a couple of web pages with step by step guides for configuring it.

Download CrystalDiskMark and benchmark your hard drives. I've seen slow drives be the bottleneck (although 24Mbs would mean an unusually slow drive.
